Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Caroline George!
Writes:
Hi there! I write a wide range of young adult novels, everything from historical romance to murder mystery. Despite their differences, my books have strong messages and experiment with voice and story structure. I feel incredibly privileged whenever someone reads my work. To have a person’s attention for however many hours is something I don’t take for granted. I strive to offer wisdom, encouragement, and compassion through my books so that people feel seen and understood.
My latest YA novel CURSES AND OTHER BURIED THINGS takes place in the Okefenokee Swamp of South Georgia and focuses on Susana Prather, a teenage girl with a curse spanning generations. The story is wholly based off my own family’s Southern folklore.
About:
Although born and raised in Georgia, I now live in a rural community in Central Wyoming, where I work for a ranch. When I’m not writing or filming cowboys, I can be found singing at my local haunt or hiking in the Bighorn Mountains.
What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:
- Someone who enjoys Southern Gothic novels,
- Loves rich prose and attention to detail,
- Wants an eerie read for spooky season,
- Goes wild for a love triangle and historical romance,
- Is intrigued by folklore and family history.
What to expect if we’re compatible:
- Plotlines that’ll keep you on your toes
- Stories with provocative themes
- Maybe a Western book in the future
“Blood holds all kinds of curses.”
Seven generations of women in Susana Prather’s family have been lost to the Georgia swamp behind her house. The morning after her eighteenth birthday, she awakens soaked with water, with no memory of sleepwalking. No matter how she tries to stop it, she’s pulled from her safe bed night after night, haunted by her own family history and legacy. Now, the truth feels unavoidable: it’s only a matter of time before she loses her mind and the swamp becomes her grave.
Unless she can figure out how to break the curse.
When she isn’t sleepwalking, she’s dreaming of her great-great-great-great-grandmother, Suzanna Yawn, who set the curse in motion in 1855. Her ancestor’s life bears such similarity to her own that it might hold the key she seeks. Or it might only foretell tragedy.
As Susana seeks solutions in the past and the present, family members hold secrets tighter to their chests, friends grow distant, and old flames threaten to sputter and die. But Susana has something no one else has been able to seize: the unflagging belief that all curses can be broken and that love can help a new future begin.
Based on her own family history, award-winning novelist Caroline George’s latest novel is a staggeringly beautiful work of hope.
