Livy Hart | A Series of Increasingly Bad Dates with Dad’s Young Hot-shot Boss

Instagram

1--What is the title of your latest release?

SOME KIND OF BLUNDERFUL

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A woman accidentally winds up on a series of increasingly bad dates with her dad’s young hot-shot boss/nemesis—and her dad absolutely cannot find out.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It’s set in a small town outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I wanted it to be set near a major basketball arena and in the American south, and I was craving a little of that Georgia charm!

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Mia and I would marathon One Tree Hill or Two Broke Girls and knit blankets together, and then I’d help her decorate her classroom. It’d be among the greatest days of my life.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Crafty, independent, caring.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

That if someone gives you the butterflies for long enough without kissing you, your smart watch will detect cardio. I researched this very important detail for the book.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I wait until I’m done for any serious edits. Otherwise I would tweak the story to death!

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Chips and queso, though I recently had a burger with friend macaroni and cheese on it from Cheesecake Factory that changed my life for the better.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

Controlled clutter. I’m a big fan of natural light, so I parked my desk by the window. There are always random romance paperbacks stacked up on the corner of my desk.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Sarah Hogle. Her writing is funny and clever in such a distinct way. I also admire Tessa Bailey so much for her hilarious writing and the dynasty she’s building! What a boss.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

So many, but a few that come to mind are People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry, Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren, and Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle. They were each formative not only in my writing journey, but in my life. Unbeatable characterization by all three authors.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I think about that moment all the time. I was at the library in my Florida hometown, a place I hadn’t been in years but once meant everything to me. Full disclosure, the call was an email, but I’m glad it was because it rendered me speechless. I paced between stacks like a caged animal until the news sunk in. I still get that feeling with big publishing moments—that pinch-me feeling.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Romance of all kinds. Recently I’ve gotten into reading historical romances for the ultimate escape, but contemporary is always my first choice.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

My Best Friend’s Wedding, Runaway Bride, 10 Things I Hate About You.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall and Spring. I love when the world quiets down and roars back to life.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Usually with a great meal followed by carrot cake.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The Office Ladies is my favorite podcast. In fact, Some Kind of Blunderful is dedicated to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey/the cast of The Office!

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian is near and dear to my heart.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Write, write, write! And Pilates. I love a good fitness class where I can’t quit halfway through or risk embarrassment; it’s the ultimate motivator.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m beside myself with excitement about what I’m releasing next year. If you love sassy and passionate protagonists, feisty side characters, and/or big family hijinks, I hope you’ll check out my upcoming romcom THE GREAT DATING FAKE OFF, out in August of 2024.

SOME KIND OF BLUNDERFUL by Livy Hart

Some Kind of Blunderful

Fate doesn't play fair in this hilarious and sexy comedy of errors from the author of Planes, Trains, and All the Feels.

After ten and a half horrible dates in a row, I should have known better than to swipe right on Alex Conroy's profile. Men that good looking can't actually be real.

Call me hopeful, or maybe naive, but I had a feeling about him. And I swear it had nothing to do with the desire to give my silicon savior a break for one night. But five minutes in and it's clear we have nothing in common.

I was born and raised in blink-and-you'll-miss-it Avondale and have no desire to live anywhere else. He's lived in more cities than a Taylor Swift tour and has no desire to settle down.

I love my classroom full of hyper-excitable preschoolers. Alex is the poster boy for the corporate hustle.

The only thing in his favor? After tonight, I never have to see him again.

But of course, nothing in life is easy. And it's not forty-eight hours before him, and his infuriating dimples, are smack dab in my life again.

About Livy Hart

Livy Hart

Romance author Livy Hart has two children, too many Funko Pops, and a husband who’s workin’ on the railroad—literally. She currently resides in Dallas, Texas where she enjoys long walks on the concrete and people-watching at malls so big they have their own zip codes. When she’s not writing, she’s bickering with her KitchenAid stand mixer, road-tripping to her sleepy Florida hometown, or sipping espresso on her Nonna’s porch.
