Leslie O’Sullivan | Conversations in Character with Beast aka Beatrice Sharpe

Book Title: CRIMSON MELODIES, Book Four of Rockin’ Fairy Tales

Character Name: Beast aka Beatrice Sharpe

How would you describe your family or your childhood?

I once considered the members of our band, B&B+3, as my family before I was cursed. Now, my closest friends are a quartet of legendary Hollywood ghosts with attitudes and flair.

What was your greatest talent?

Before the nasty enchantress, Tressa Divine, slapped the curse on me, as Beatrice, I’d won awards for my song lyrics, and was a decent singer. Even though my talons get in the way, I’m still able to write, but the singing - nope, not with these beastly, harpy vocal cords.

Significant other?

My heart will always belong to Benedict Boyd, the lead singer/songwriter of B&B+3.

Where do you live?

I’m banished to the top floor library and rooftop of an iconic haunted Hollywood hotel.

Do you have any enemies?

The fiends, calling themselves Dark Vinyl Artists, who I’d love to sink my talons into, are my captors and tormentors.

How do you feel about the place where you are now?

Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place? The Hotel Caliwood is precious to me even as it serves as my prison. It’s here I met Benedict, joined his band, and started our life together before the curse stole everything from me. The hotel ghosts are as entertaining as they are enigmatic.

Greatest disappointment?

My burden is knowing I’m the cause of Benedict’s bruised and broken heart.

Greatest source of joy?

Benedict, always Benedict and the music we made together. Flying is pretty darn amazing as well.

What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun? I’m not going to lie. There’s a certain satisfaction in using my hideous form to freak out low-lifes who deserve a good heart-stopping fright.

What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?

I don’t have a snark filter. Even when I try to be sweet, my words often wear a sarcastic, sour bite.

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

If Benedict can’t fall in love with this beastly shell before the last page of my enchanted songbook falls from its binding, I’m doomed to remain a harpy forever.

How are you fighting the problem?

Benedict must supply lyrics for the band’s upcoming album, or they may be ruined. He’s brilliant with music but hopeless at lyrics. As Beast, I’m giving him my poems to complete his songs in the hope my true heart will speak to his through my words.

Is there something that you need or want that you don’t have?

For yourself or for someone important to you? I wish the curse didn’t prevent me from telling Benedict that Beatrice didn’t leave him willingly and never stopped loving him.

Why don’t you have it? What is in the way?

My sharp tongue ruined us when I unknowingly spoke the words that invoked the curse, transforming Beatrice into Beast. Now, it prevents me from speaking the truth about who I truly am.

Rockin’ Fairy Tales #4

Crimson Melodies

The snap and spice of Much Ado About Nothing meets a gender swap Beauty and the Beast in this enemies to lovers, rockstar romantasy set at Hollywood’s haunted Hotel Caliwood.A year ago, lovers Benedict Boyd and Beatrice Sharpe, lead singers of the rock band, B & B + 3, made Hollywood history with a spectacular break up at Hotel Caliwood that ended with Beatrice in the pool, ruining a wildly expensive designer dress. Beatrice dropped off the grid, leaving the band without a lyricist. After a year on the road, Benedict and the band are back in Hollywood, preparing to go into the studio to record a much-anticipated album to resurrect the singer’s tainted fame. AlthoughBenedict is a genius with music, he’s a disaster with lyrics. If he can’t deliver completed songsfor the album, his band’s future is in jeopardy.Back at Hotel Caliwood, Benedict encounters, Beast, a mysterious, harpy poetess who’s taken up residence in the abandoned library. Following a prickly beginning, the two forge a musical partnership that promises to save the band.To his surprise, Benedict forms an attachment to Beast which blossoms into unexpected affection. Unbeknownst to Benedict, any possibility of a future for the unconventional pair is tainted by the curse slapped on Beast by a jealous enchantress. Will help from the ghosts of Hotel Caliwood and Beast’s beautiful lyrics allow Benedict to let go of his past and embrace this new love, or will he turn away, dooming Beast to remain a harpy forever?
