Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Evie Green!
Writes:
Stories in which weird things happen to ordinary people. For example, THE NEW ONE is about a family whose teenage daughter is badly injured in a hit-and-run accident, and who are offered a lifeline in the form of a medical trial in Switzerland. The only issue is the fact that this trial will mean they need to welcome a cloned version of their daughter into their home. Sophie, the new one, is engineered to be better in every way. So what happens if the original daughter wakes up?
About:
A British writer using a pseudonym for my speculative sci-fi, I live on the Atlantic coast in the southwest of England. My interests include walking in the rain (not through choice: it just rains a lot where I live), going to the movies, and watching cooking shows on TV and somehow imagining I know what these elaborate dishes taste like. My children are teenagers now so I do less in the way of tucking them up in bed and more waiting up for them to come home these days, and I love their company. My husband is a writer too, of picture books, and my ideal day involves bouncing ideas off each other and seeing what emerges.
For my ideal reader match I’m looking for readers craving books with:
- Intriguing set ups.
- Gripping plots
- Big twists
- Stories with human drama at the center, and weird goings on as the secondary concern.
- Grappling with questions of identity: who am I? And in that case, who are you?
- A character waking up into a new life, and not understanding what’s going on.
- A parent who will do anything to save their child.
What to expect if we're compatible:
- High concept plots — what if, what if, what if?
- Characters who are doing their best to hold things together as everything falls apart.
- Big surprises.
- Instagram posts about Cornwall, writing, and the places life takes me.
- Giveaways of signed copies of my books.
A suspenseful, cutting-edge novel about two parents who finally get the daughter they’ve always wanted—it’s too bad she isn’t real. From the author of We Hear Voices.
For Tamsyn and Ed, life is tough. They both work long hours for very little money and come home to their moody, rebellious daughter, Scarlett.
After a tragic accident leaves Scarlett comatose and with little chance of recovery, Tamsyn and Ed are out of options until a lifeline emerges in the form of an unusual medical trial. In exchange for the very best treatment for Scarlett, a fully furnished apartment, and a limitless spending account, the family must agree to move to Switzerland and welcome an artificial copy of their daughter into their home.
Suddenly their life is transformed. Tamsyn and Ed want for nothing, and the AI replacement, Sophie, makes it feel just like having their daughter back—except without all the bad parts. Sophie is engaged, happy, and actually wants to spend time with her parents.
But things take a turn for the worse when Scarlett makes a very real recovery and the family discovers that the forces behind their new life are darker than they ever could have imagined.
