1--What is the title of your latest release?

BAYOU BELOVED

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Two rival lawyers in a quirky small-town battle it out in court, but behind the scenes, each is falling for the enemy.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I think small town Louisiana is the perfect place for this book. I’ve written several books set in fictional Papillon, Louisiana, and Quaid, the hero, has been a part of all of them. For the heroine, this is a coming home book. A small town feels warm but for the heroine, this relationship with her family and the town is complex.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely. Jayna is very serious but she’s also fun. I think we would have a lot to talk about.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Loyal, loving, funny

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about the law. Specifically, property laws in Louisiana. The case they’re deeply involved in concerns property laws. It sounds dry and boring, but this is a quirky small town and the way they solve it is very amusing.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do a rough edit when I finish a scene or chapter. I go back over it and then I move on. When the book is finished, I do a full edit.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

French butter. Président is sold at our local Central Market, and I’m addicted.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

It’s the spare bedroom in our house, and I love it because it catches the best light. It’s at the back of the house near the door to the backyard, so I can take breaks with my pups. It’s filled with books I love and lots of mementos.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Jayne Ann Krentz. I love her work and how she’s had such an amazing career. She’s managed to grow and evolve in a way that didn’t leave her early readers behind.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Trust Me by Jayne Ann Krentz. I grew up loving romance, but I didn’t think I could ever write it. All the romances I’d read before this one had been very serious, with serious characters. This one was funny, and the heroine was quirky and weird. I related to her on every level and realized there might be a place for me in romance.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

My “call” was an email since my first book was published with a small press. And it went to my Spam. The publisher replied nine days after I sent in the book, but I didn’t find it for over a month. The panic I felt was real. Luckily, they understood and Small Town Siren was published later that year.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Paranormal romance.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Galaxy Quest. I could watch it a thousand times.

15--What is your favorite season?

Summer – although I complain about the heat. I love summer because I get to spend afternoons in the pool.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Playing games and watching movies with my friends. We get together for dinner and have a fun evening every year.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I loved Everything Everywhere All at Once so much. It was a wild ride and also touched on issues of family in a relatable way.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I eat pretty much anything and love to try new foods, but Mexican is probably my favorite.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I like to bake and cook. I’m always trying new recipes. I also love to read, and I’m getting into VR. My husband bought me a headset for Christmas a few years back, and I find it fascinating. I play some games, but I also love the virtual tours of world landmarks you can find there.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’ve got a novella coming out in June. It’s called Tempted. And in September I’m starting a new chapter of my Masters and Mercenaries series called Love the Way You Spy.

BAYOU BELOVED by Lexi Blake

Butterfly Bayou #6

Bayou Beloved

When a woman returns home to Louisiana's Butterfly Bayou, her high school crush finally notices she exists, in a small-town contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake.

Quaid Havery always planned to follow in his father’s footsteps. He went to law school and then came home to take over his dad’s legal practice. Being the only lawyer in small-town Papillon, Quaid is pretty sure he’s seen everything. After all, he was once asked to sue an alligator for defamation of character. He’s prepared for anything the town can throw at him, until he encounters Jayna Cardet. She’s gorgeous, smart, funny, and unlike any woman he’s met before....Except he has.

Jayna never thought she’d return to Papillon, but when her life gets turned around she must learn to live in the close-knit community again. She certainly never dreamed she would practice law in her little town, but she finds herself in the courtroom, and the opposing counsel is her former high school crush, Quaid. It wouldn’t be so bad if the man had developed a beer belly, but Quaid is more handsome than ever. And instead of ignoring her like he did in high school, he’s made it plain that he wants to get to know her.

Thus begins a courtship destined to end in a wedding or a war. Either way, the locals are popping some corn and eagerly awaiting the outcome.
