Leighann Dobbs | 20 Questions: WHO SLAYED THE SANTAS?

facebooktwitter

1--What is the title of your latest release?

WHO SLAYED THE SANTAS?

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Quirky, funny, holiday cozy mystery with a surprise twist at the end.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It’s in a series of holiday themed cozies which all take place at the mansion of Crescent Cove’s richest citizen, Juniper Holiday. So deciding where it would take place was easy. And, since it’s a Christmas book, of course it takes place right before Christmas.

4--Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life?

Honestly, I’m not sure. She has a lot more energy than I do and she’s always finding dead bodies which can get a bit tedious. I do like her taste in music though - 80’s rock.

5--What are three words that describe your sleuth?

Stubborn, fun, smart.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

Toy train engines are very heavy and can be dangerous. You’ll see why if you read the book.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I guess I do a little of both.  I edit each chapter as I am writing it, but then I go back over the whole thing and layer in more clues, fix problems with the timeline and add in things I “discovered” as I wrote the ending.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Chocolate. I keep a bag of Hershey’s kisses in the freezer and dip in several times a day.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I have a great office in my spare bedroom with a big “L” shaped desk, bookcases with all my books, a huge whiteboard wall and lots of markers, post it notes and paper at my disposal. But for some reason, I work in my living room instead.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Robert Parker was my favorite.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Green Eggs and Ham.  That’s the book I learned to read on.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I self-publish so I didn’t need to wait for a call. I just put my books up. That was 10 years ago and I’ve been doing it ever since.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Anything mystery but lately I’ve been into psychological thrillers.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

The Wizard of Oz.

15--What is your favorite season?

Summer! Love the warm weather even though I live in New England and only get summer for like 2 days out of the year.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

A nice meal out at my favorite steak house with my family.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Longmire. Best show ever. I think it ended a few years back but I still think about it - that’s when you know the show was good.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Seafood. I love anything seafood especially crab and lobster.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Free time?  What is that?  I write books in my free time. Sometimes I go boating.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

More quirky, funny cozy mysteries.

Juniper Holiday Cozy Mystery #3

Who Slayed The Santas?

It’s Christmas in the Holiday Mansion and Juniper has this years party gift-wrapped and under the tree!

Christmas at the Holiday mansion is always a festive affair. The residents of Crescent Cove look forward to Juniper’s yard decorations almost as much as an invitation to one of her parties—and this year everyone has been invited. What could possibly go wrong with a mansion full of people and non-humans?

Murder of the ho-ho-ho variety, that’s what. Santa’s not so jolly anymore and Juniper can’t help but be suspicious of Mrs. Claus. Detective Mallard is convinced one of the elves is responsible. Victoria thinks it was an accident. Nobody can be sure, however, because there was no witness—not even the ghosts saw what happened.

Juniper is determined to discover the murderer before Christmas Day, which doesn’t give her much time. Will she manage, or will Santa’s murderer go free to sleigh again?
