1--What is the title of your latest release?

The title is STRIP: A Bargain with the Boss Romance. I changed it a few months before publication. The original title I had chosen was Savoring Sage. I liked that title, but it didn’t have the edge I was looking for.  I LOVE the new title!

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

STRIP is a contemporary romance (with a hint of suspense) about how a rich young woman who’s lost everything fights to save her ailing sister.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Years ago, I used to go dancing with my friends at clubs on Delaware Avenue in Philadelphia, and we’d pass various strip clubs during the cab ride. My writer’s mind always wondered about the women that worked there. I think that stuck with me and came out in this book.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

I would love to. Sage is strong, bold, adventurous, and sassy. She’s not intimidated by anyone. I’m not the most coordinated dancer, so I’d like her to teach me some dance moves.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Wow. This is hard. I would say determined, sexy and protective.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

Apparently, it’s bad luck for a dancer to leave work with one-dollar bills. Who knew?!?! This bit of superstition didn’t make it into my book because it was in a piece of dialogue, I ended up cutting, but I love learning little quirks like this. Researching the strip club world was absolutely fascinating.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I am an obsessive editor. Because I work full-time and have a busy family life, there can sometimes be long gaps in my writing sessions. So, when I sit down to write, I usually read the pages I’ve most recently written to get back in the writing grove. It’s a bad habit because then I end up editing and editing and editing instead of writing new words!

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Cheese. I could live on cheese. My favorites are probably Port Salut and a nice, hard goat’s milk gouda. Paired with wine, of course!

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I usually write in the sitting room of my bedroom. It’s in the corner of my house, so it’s nice and quiet. The couch is super comfy, and the room gets great light. I shut my bedroom door, prop my computer on my lap and mentally slip into my current heroine’s heels, hiking boots, sneakers, etc.

10--Who is an author you admire?

This will sound cliché, but Nora Roberts. Obviously, I admire her talent, but she is legendary in the romance writing community for her work ethic. I’ve heard multiple times that she writes 8 hours a day, every day. I would love to have that kind of discipline.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart. It was one of my grandmother’s old, weathered paperbacks. I found it when I was 12, and I was instantly captivated. Things haven’t always been easy for me. Being able to escape into a book has been a lifeline during some really hard times. I have The Moon-Spinners to thank for that.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

So, in my case, it was an email offering me a contract. I read it about ten times to make sure I was reading it correctly, then I cried and called my mom!

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Romantic suspense and paranormal romance.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Persuasion. The 1995 version with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. The movie is so well done, and the chemistry is intense despite it being a period piece with very little physical contact. If you haven’t seen it, you should!

15--What is your favorite season?

Summer. I love sitting on the beach and listening to the ocean, and I absolutely adore the heat. The hotter, the better. I’m that weird person that enjoys the furnace-like blast that hits you when you walk out of an air-conditioned building in July.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

My family and I eat Carvel ice cream cake. My mom always got them for our family birthdays, so it doesn’t feel like a birthday without one.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Stranger Things. It’s not super recent, but I just finished binge-watching Season 4, and I can’t wait for Season 5. The writing is clever, the storyline and characters are well-developed and complex, and I can’t get enough of the 80’s references.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Can I just draw an arrow up to Question 8? Wine and cheese count as a type of cuisine, right?

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I wish I had more free time, but don’t we all? When I get free time, I jog, read, and call family and friends (the old-fashioned way - by just picking up the phone and dialing with no prior notice or warning).

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m currently writing the next book in my Spice Up the Night series. The heroine is Sage’s sister, Rosemary. She is amazing. She has a huge heart, quiet strength and incredible positivity despite life dealing her a really rough hand. I think you’ll really like her.

A Bargain with the Boss Romance

Sage Cashman’s sister suffers from a terrible illness and Sage will do anything to help her, including dancing at a gentleman’s club to support the two of them. Every night, she puts on a show for the customers, and the naughtier and more flirtatious she acts, the better her tips. Sage is just going through the motions until she gets closer to the dark, silent Adonis who lurks in the shadows during her performances. When Ryker Madsen is in her orbit, she doesn’t have to pretend she’s a woman easily seduced.

Ryker Madsen turns out to be more than Sage’s boss—he’s the owner of the club. He’s also involved with the company producing the experimental drug that might be her sister’s only hope. Ryker is as arrogant as he is rich, and it’s no secret that he wants Sage and is determined to have her. He’s intrigued when Sage proposes a deal: companionship for connections. Preferring uncommitted and unemotional relationships, Ryker sees Sage’s proposal as the perfect way to get her out of his system. What Ryker doesn't know is that Sage, jaded from a string of betrayals, has many secrets. Including her identity.

The hotter their relationship gets, the closer the truth comes to the surface. When the skeletons in Sage’s family’s closet start tumbling out, they threaten both her plan to save her sister and her future with Ryker.

About Elisabeth Caldwell

Elisabeth Caldwell

Elisabeth Caldwell is an award-winning author of romantic suspense, paranormal and contemporary romance novels. She grew up a Philly (and suburban Philly) girl with thick glasses and her nose buried in a book. When she was 12, she fell into the yellowed pages of one of her grandmother’s Mary Stewart novels and has been obsessed with romance ever since. She sees fairies in the trees, mermaids in the ocean, ghosts peeking through shuttered windows, and a story behind every couple that walks by holding hands.

Elisabeth lives in Bucks County, PA with her three vibrant children, a husband who is her soulmate, and one very sweet, albino corn snake. She is a jogger, tea-lover and avid recycler. She practices law by day, writes romance by night and daydreams every chance she can get.
