Olivia Atwater | Author-Reader Match: HALF A SOUL

facebooktwittergoodreadsbookbubamazon

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Olivia Atwater!

Writes:

Olivia Atwater writes whimsical historical fantasy with a hint of satire. HALF A SOUL ties together the best parts of Regency romance and faerie tale fantasy, with curmudgeonly magicians and clueless, subtly sinister faeries causing trouble in the London marriage mart. A young woman who’s lost half her soul and most of her emotions just wants to help her cousin find a husband—but between dark curses, deep injustices, and one handsome, miserably cynical magician, she’ll be drawn into dangers both social and otherworldly.

About:

I live in Montreal, Quebec with my fantastic, prose-inspiring husband and my two cats. I have been, at various times, a historical re-enactor, a professional witch at a metaphysical supply store, a web developer, and a vending machine repairperson. I prefer Pathfinder to Dungeons & Dragons, and I always want to hear about your character.

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

  • Loves witty banter
  • Enjoys traditional faerie folklore
  • Wants to eat the rich
  • Attracted to grumpy magicians with a heart of gold

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • Whimsical class warfare
  • Polite, mildly confused Canadian tweeting
  • Cat pictures?? CAT PICTURES
  • Wild celebrations about the natural 20 I just rolled
  • Ten Icky Facts About Traditional British Folk Magic Which Never Made It Into This Book

HALF A SOUL by Olivia Atwater

Regency Faerie Tales #1

Half a Soul

“Whimsical, witty, and brimming over with charm” (India Holton), Olivia Atwater’s delightful debut will transport you to a magical version of Regency England, where the only thing more meddlesome than a fairy is a marriage-minded mother!

It’s difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you’re a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment—an unfortunate condition that leaves her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season—but when Elias Wilder, the handsome, peculiar, and utterly ill-mannered Lord Sorcier, discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into strange and dangerous faerie affairs.

If her reputation can survive both her curse and her sudden connection with the least-liked man in all high society, then she and her family may yet reclaim their normal place in the world. But the longer Dora spends with Elias, the more she begins to suspect that one may indeed fall in love even with only half a soul.

Olivia Atwater writes whimsical historical fantasy with a hint of satire. She lives in Montreal, Quebec with her fantastic, prose-inspiring husband and her two cats. When she told her second-grade history teacher that she wanted to work with history someday, she is fairly certain this isn't what either party had in mind. She has been, at various times, a historical re-enactor, a professional witch at a metaphysical supply store, a web developer, and a vending machine repairperson.
