Stealing Infinity, July 2022

1--What is the title of your latest release?

STEALING INFINITY

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A teen girl with an unusual gift gets kicked out of school and winds up at a secret academy for time travelers where she must unravel an elaborate puzzle of history and time—one where she just might be one of the missing pieces. It’s the Da Vinci Code meets Riverdale.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I could see the location so clearly in my head—a remote island surrounded by churning seas, that plays host to a hidden academy where art is revered, luxury abounds, and time travel is part of the curriculum. Since such a place didn’t exist, I created the fictional Gray Wolf Academy.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

In a lot of ways, she is me at that age, so yes!

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Strong, intuitive, resourceful

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about art, numerology, tarot cards, Versailles, and the physics of time travel.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I always edit as I go. Then I edit several more times before I hand it over to my editor. After she gives me her editorial suggestions, I edit again.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

My husband and I celebrate every New Year with caviar and champagne, and I look forward to it all year.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

The walls are a soft purple, the floors are limestone, there are floor to ceiling built-in bookshelves bursting with books (the real reason I wanted the house!), a large wooden desk, and a comfy, purple velvet reading chair.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Stephen King. I’ve been reading him since I was a teen.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

There are 2: Charlotte’s Web was the first book that made me cry, which in turn taught me the power of words/storytelling – and Catcher in the Rye, I read it for AP English and reading about Holden Caulfield’s experiences made me feel seen as an unhappy teen who was sure I was the only one who felt that way.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I’m going to go all the way back to 2004 when I got the call that my debut novel had been sold in a 2-book deal. I was dropping off a rental car at the airport and I started squealing and jumping up and down with excitement. People were staring, but I just didn’t care. It had been such a long journey to get to that point and I could not (and would not!) contain my joy.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read all the genres. Lately though, I’ve been reading a lot of mysteries and thrillers.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I guess I don’t really do favorites because there are so many that I like. So, I’ll say that as a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro I recently saw Nightmare Alley and really enjoyed it. The aesthetics were amazing.

15--What is your favorite season?

Well, I live in Southern California, so we don’t really have seasons, but my favorite theoretical season is Fall.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my husband, on a surprise trip to a fun location organized by him, with champagne served on arrival.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I love the Smartless podcast; I’m watching the final season of Peaky Blinders and it’s astonishingly good; and at the moment I’m listening to the audio book The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I don’t really have a favorite, but I’m a total foodie and will try anything once.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Travel, near, far, doesn’t matter. I love seeing new places, meeting new people, and experiencing/learning new things.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

After STEALING INFINITY, comes the 2nd book in the series, RULING DESTINY, which I’m working on now, and a 3rd book will follow.

STEALING INFINITY by Alyson Noel

Stealing Infinity

My life goes completely sideways the moment I meet the mysterious Braxton. Sure, he’s ridiculously hot, but he’s also the reason I’ve been kicked out of school and recruited into Gray Wolf Academy—a remote island school completely off the grid. I never should have trusted a face so perfect.

But the reality of why Gray Wolf wanted me is what truly blows my mind. It’s a school for time travelers. Tripping, they call it. This place is filled with elaborate costumes and rare artifacts, where every move is strategic and the halls are filled with shadows and secrets.

Here, what you see isn’t always what it appears. Including Braxton. Because even though there’s an energy connecting us together, the more secrets he keeps from me, the more it feels like something is pulling us apart. Something that has to do with this place—and its darker purpose. It’s all part of a guarded, elaborate puzzle of history and time…and I might be one of the missing pieces.

Now I have all the time in the world. And yet I can’t shake the feeling that time is the one thing I’m about to run out of…fast.
