1--What is the title of your latest release?

SERPENT’S CLAIM

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

The Serpent’s Touch duet is a Paranormal Fantasy Romance with a human heroine and a gorgonian hero, a character based on Medusa.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

The story is set in my world of The River of Mists. At first, I planned for it to take place entirely in our contemporary world, like the trilogy Madame Tan’s Menagerie, also set in the River of Mists. But I really wanted to “see” Nerifir, the magical kingdom where all my heroes came from. So, the main couple of the Serpent’s Touch cross the River of Mists into Nerifir in this duet. It was so much fun to create an all-new magical world for these books!

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely. There is so much of myself in Amira, more than in many of my other heroines, I believe. She is quiet, contemplative, and introverted. But she opens up with the people she loves and trusts.

Life isn’t fair to Amira. She has to work very hard for her Happily Ever After. But it feels so amazing to see her finally succeed in everything she ever wanted.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Unusual, confident, charming.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learn something with every book I write. For this duet, I used a new-to-me technique of story structure when outlining, and I’m pleased with how it turned out. Writing Serpent’s Touch has also re-enforced my love for romance as fiction genre.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do both. I self-edit as I write, chapter by chapter. Once I’m done, I do a full round of re-writes. Then, the editing starts. For Serpent’s Touch, I had two amazing, talented authors as critique partners, Mel Sterling and Grace Draven. Their input was invaluable, and I will be forever grateful to them for taking their time and sharing their advice.

For copy editing I’ve been using Cissell Ink for the longest time now. Amy is amazing, and I love working with her. I also have a proofreader and a team of beta readers to catch any last-minute typos. It’s a long process, but it gets my books to publication in the best shape I can do.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I love sushi and carrot cake.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I don’t have an office. Our house simply doesn’t have enough space for me to have one. I write on a laptop anywhere I feel like at any given moment—on the couch, in bed, in an office chair in our living room. In the summer, I love writing outside in the backyard.

I need it to be absolutely quiet and often wear my noise-cancelling headphones, listening to classical music. I don’t listen to songs when I write because I find song lyrics distracting.

10--Who is an author you admire?

There are so many. I love the writing style of Grace Draven, Mel Sterling, and Holly Black. The romance in books by Mia Sheridan, Tiffany Roberts, Karina Halle, and Kirsten Callihan always warms my heart. Kathryn Ann Kingsley, Bex McLynn, and Elizabeth Hunter have written my most favorite fictional characters to date. And I simply adore the imagination of Naomi Lucas, Regine Abel, May Sage, and Ruby Dixon.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Not just any one book, but the Romance genre in general has made my life infinitely better. I’ve discovered it relatively recently, less than ten years ago, and it has been my escape ever since.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

Since I’ve never pursued a career in traditional publishing, I’ve never sent a single query letter anywhere. I knew from the very beginning that the stories I wished to write weren’t typically found in stores.

“The call” in my case would be the moment when the story that had been brewing in my head for some time had formed enough for me to want to put it on paper. Once it was done, I wondered if others would like to read it. That was in 2017 when I first discovered self-publishing, and I haven’t looked back ever since.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

It used to be Contemporary Romance. But I’ve been reading more and more in Paranormal and Fantasy Romance genre lately.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

That changes all the time. The latest movie I watched and adored was The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

15--What is your favorite season?

I have favorite months, not seasons. November and April are the quietest months in our house. That’s when I get to write in peace.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my family. I usually get breakfast in bed, my favorite cake, and dinner cooked for me. It’s the best!

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. I enjoyed it very much.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I love Asian Fusion: Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. I also love the plain old meat and potatoes. I’m not a picky eater at all. I’ll try any new food, too.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I write. It had become both my job and my leisure pastime now. I have to make an effort to stop writing and do anything else in order to keep a balanced lifestyle. I enjoy spending time with my family—my husband and our three children. To keep physically active, I walk daily, do yoga, ski in the winter, and paddle board in the summer.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

Most recently, I’ve been developing two words in which I really enjoy writing: my Paranormal Fantasy romance world, The River of Mists, and my lighthearted Alien Romance world, My Holiday Tails.

The River of Mists: I’m currently planning and outlining the next duet, FIRE IN STONE, which I’m hoping to publish end of this year.

My Holiday Tails: The next book in this series, MAIL ORDER MOM, is coming out May 5th, just in time for Mother’s Day.

SERPENT'S CLAIM by Marina Simcoe

Serpent's Touch #2

Serpent's Claim

Final book in the duet.

Life in Nerifir is beautiful, magical, and dangerous.
I came to the Kingdom of Lorsan hoping to find a new home but found envy and betrayal.
When everything is taken from me—my sight, my freedom, and my love—I need to search deep for the strength to go on.

Now, I no longer wish for just a safe place to live. I want a true home, a place where I belong. And I'm ready to fight for it, even if that means taking over the kingdom.

This book is part 2 of the duet Serpent's Touch, set in Marina Simcoe's world of the River of Mists.
Both books of the duet follow the story of the same couple. It is recommended to read them in order. Serpent's Claim is a Romantic Fantasy with an MF romance and the heroine's journey set in Marina Simcoe's world of the River of Mists.
It contains graphic descriptions of intimacy. Intended for mature readers.
