1--What is the title of your latest release?

A DEEPER BLUE, book 2 of the 3 Colors Trilogy (but it does read well as a stand-alone)

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Witch Azure Lucas and Rafe DeSandre (alpha-hole, biker, and exiled lone wolf) hit the road and face down a warlock motorcycle game in adventure that puts them on a collision course with destiny.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

In book 1, A Little Red, I had already established that Rafe’s pack was from Oregon and since I live in Washington, it wasn’t a stretch to put them on a road trip to the Pacific Northwest.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Oh, absolutely!  Given that Azure has the second sight and can see the future, she might be the most annoying friend ever since her “I told you so” would be literal. But on the other hand, she’s a ride or die kind of friend who would always show up for her friends.  And of course, if we could go to the nearest casino, that gift might come in handy.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

loyal, stubborn, playful

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

That not everyone knows what the second sight is! When I put the book out to beta readers they uniformly came back with a question mark on that.  Apparently, not everyone read the same fairy tales I did growing up.  Of course, I went back in and changed the text to explain it. Talk about beta readers coming through to save the day!  BUT, for everyone out there, “Second sight is an alleged extra-sensory vision of future events or of things or events at a remote location.” (Thank you Wikipedia.)

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do some editing while I write. It drives me a little nuts when I know I’ve written something inconsistent.  I try to go back and make sure the text matches with itself because otherwise I might forget later.  But a lot of the nitty-gritty, punctuation, typo checks, all of that waits until the end.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Oooh, tough question.  Probably Equal Exchange Chocolates.  It’s a fair trade chocolate bar and they have one in Lemon Ginger and Black Pepper that I love.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

I work from home, so my home office is a disaster of work stuff, a giant outlining board, and purple walls.  When COVID hit and everyone started Zooming I was shocked to realize how many people have white walls. Color, people! Learn to love it!

10--Who is an author you admire?

Janet Evanovich, she’s funny and she’s built her own empire.  I should be so lucky to have a tenth of her success.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

The Handyman by Linda Nichols – Linda is my aunt and it was the first time I’d realized that real people could write books and have them published. She has always been so uplifting and supportive. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her.  And shameless plug, if you like lovely Christian fiction romances, check out her books.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

Heh. In my first book, Bulletproof Mascara, I had been working with my agent for over a year, and the process of getting it signed was like slow motion and too fast all at the same time. All the paperwork takes forever, but then you finally realize that it’s happening and you think… Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

I really love romance and mystery, but sci-fi and fantasy also hold a strong place in my heart. Yeah… I know.  I didn’t pick one did I.  Well, you know what?  I’m not going to either.  I love them all!

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Probably Clue with Tim Curry.  It’s brilliant.  Raising Arizona with Nicolas Cage is up there.  And of course, my favorite Christmas movies Die Hard and White Christmas.

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall.  Warm days, cool nights.  What’s not to love?

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Over about 2 weeks with lots of presents but no mention of how old I am.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The Umbrella Academy, Ted Lasso, The Mandalorian

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

I love Thai curries, sushi, good pizza, and my mom’s corned beef.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Hahahahahaha! Yeah… when do I have that again?  Probably read, but it’s been so long I don’t know.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

A BRIGHTER YELLOW!  Book 3 of the 3 Colors Trilogy.  I recommend picking up at least book 1 first, but it’s a slam bang wrap up to the series. (Although, look for more books in this world coming soon.)

A DEEPER BLUE by Bethany Maines

3 Colors Trilogy #2

A Deeper Blue

A witch, a wolf, and the open road… no future is guaranteed.

Fae witch and seer Azure Lucas is on her way to a summit of shifters and magic-wielders in Portland, Oregon at her family’s insistence. She doesn’t think anything will come of it—the Supernaturals are notoriously independent and uncooperative, even when the fate of the world is on the line. But on a layover in Montana Azure collides with shifter Rafe DeSandre. A biker and lone wolf who thinks that destiny has passed him by, Rafe has no pack, no mate, and no future—he cares for himself and not much else. Yet, when the father he hasn’t spoken to in decades asks for a favor, Rafe agrees to deliver a precious package to the same summit that Azure is attending. Before the unlikely duo can hit the road, they are attacked by the Warlocks—a vicious magic-wielding motorcycle gang. As the pair flee cross-country they soon find that they might be more alike than they thought and the witch who likes to plan everything and the wolf who likes to wing it might just be perfect for each other. But as Azure and Rafe prepare to battle the evil Warlocks, Azure realizes that while she and Rafe might be destined for each other, she can see that destiny might not include survival. Azure is on a collision course with fate, and she’s fighting for her life, her love, and her future.
