The fall is upon us and the reading is getting very good. October is bringing to
us those comfort books that make you want to curl up with your favorite drink
near a fire and just pass the weekend with a good book. So let us begin to
explore what is out there for us to read and enjoy.
Since Harlequin has taken over the BET/Arabesque line it has not missed a
step it seems that a lot of the same authors have come over and are producing
the same quality of books that they always have. Here are some of the books
October has to offer you. Francine Craft
IF LOVE IS GOOD TO ME; Lisa Harrison
Jackson FINALLY YOU AND ME; Celeste O.
Norfleet LOVE IS FOR KEEPS and Cassandra Darden
Bell with a trade paperback named CHANGING LANE. Also keep in
mind that the Christmas season is soon to be upon us and the latest Kimani
Press/Harlequin are getting a jump start on it with a anthology by Adrianne Byrd, Donna Hill, and Monica Jackson
TAKIN' CHANCES FOR THE HOLIDAYS this is sure to get us in the mood for
our holiday reads.
Don't miss Leslie
Esdaile TAKE ME THERE from Dafina.
J.M.
Jeffries's A DANGEROUS WOMAN this book really looks like I may
need a whole bottle of wine to complete this book. It looks like it will be full
of action, suspense and of course lots of love. Genesis other book of the month
will be Crystal
Rhodes SINFUL INTENTIONS.
GUILTY PLEASURES by Donna Hill seems as
though it going to be another one of October's enjoyable action filled books. If
the title is any indication of the book we won't be upset.
One of my favorite mystery authors -- Walter Mosley --
writes a 1950's detective series that makes you not want to put down because
that means you have to wait at least a year for the next addition to the series
has written the third book to his "Fearless Jones" series FEAR OF THE
DARK.
Carl Weber
and Mary B.
Morrison have collaborated on SHE AIN'T THE ONE as individuals
these two authors are powerful what will it be like to have them together?
Keith Lee
Johnson's THE HONEYMOON IS OVER may allow us to see scorned love
from a man's point of view. I always enjoy a book that puts a twist on love.
If you are a Gwynne
Forster fan and you haven't collected some of her earlier works then you
are in for a treat. Ms. Forster is releasing a three-in-one with some of her
earlier works: SEALED WITH A KISS, AGAINST ALL ODDS and ECSTASY.
All three of these are book keepers.
I read all about murder and mayhem that when a book comes along that brings a
smile on my face I never hesitate in reading it. Carmen Green came
out with such a great read in the book in WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES.
Being the Mother of teenage boys of my own and having seven teenage nieces I am
always on the lookout for YA books that will keep their interest. Dafina came
out with a great new series that seems to fit that bill. DRAMA HIGH: THE FIGHT
is the first of a three book series by L. Divine with
book two coming out in December and book three in January, 2007. It seems to be
a good series in the making.
Kensington Publishing Corp. and Vibe Magazine are going to have a joint
venture in January, 2007 called Vibe Street Lit -- more to come in our December
column.
Late breaking news: We will need to congratulate Kimberla Lawson
Roby on being chosen as Author of the Year at the African American
Literary Awards last week. Kimberla's new novel LOVE LIVES due out January 30,
2007. Walter
Mosley was given the Sojourner Truth Award for Excellence in American
Literature.
