As if I didn't have enough reasons to love my local library, they've made it
possible for me to get together with authors without leaving my neighborhood,
as they're bringing in a series of authors for library events. This month, the
guest author was
Rachel
Vincent, who writes the bestselling Shifters series of books about
werecats. Here's the scoop on what Rachel has in the works:
The third book in the series,
Pride, just came out, and the next one,
Prey, will be coming July
1. Rachel calls this book the most difficult she's written so far, as she tried
to make the book stand alone while still fitting into the series and strike a
balance for both new and ongoing readers.
She's currently writing book five in the series, which will introduce another
species. That opens up a whole new realm of problems for her characters. "Cats
aren't the most dangerous thing out there," Rachel hints.
Rachel has plans for six books in the series, and she knows where the story's
going. She says she's looking forward to the end of the series, "But I'm also a
little sad," she adds. "I've lived with Faythe for a long time."
In the meantime, she's already striking out in new directions with an unrelated
young adult series that will debut in August. It's about a teenager who doesn't
know she's a banshee. She just thinks she's getting panic attacks when she sees
someone and knows they're going to die. Rachel says this series has been fun to
write, as it explores a different kind of character. "As a teen, you're looking
for who you are and what you want to do, which aren't always the same, and if
you also don't know what you are, that opens a new range of problems."
She has seven books planned in this series, and three are written and scheduled
for publication so far.
Rachel's very active
online, with
The Pride, a discussion board about her books, and a
blog (where she
frequently gives away books and chocolate).
Next month, I'll have scoop from
