LADY OF
INTRIGUE.
When I first devised the title of this book, I knew it was book 2 in a series. (Book 1
was LORD OR
REGRETS.) I also knew that this book would feature Gerard Badeau, my assassin/spy
hero, who would drag his heroine unwittingly into his shadowy world. What I didn’t
think about, although I really should have, is the other meaning of the phrase Lady
of Intrigue in Regency England.
Before you go ahead and Google it, let me tell you, it certainly doesn’t refer to
either a female spy or a proper young daughter of an earl. No, in fact, a lady of
intrigue usually refers to a female prostitute, a profession to which my heroine, Lady
Jane Langley, would certainly be astonished and embarrassed to be associated.
But like all things in LADY OF INTRIGUE, there are layers upon layers. Which is one of
the reasons, I’m so excited about this story. I wanted to tell a certain kind of love
story, that of two intellectual, reasonable people who fall in love through slowly
revealing each layer of themselves. Of course, it’s not so slow because they are in an
intense situation over a matter of weeks.
Gerard and Jane come to realizing this thing between them is love in different ways
and at different times. What about you? If you’ve ever fallen in love, was it fast or
slow? How long did it take you before you knew it was definitely love?
Sabrina Darby has been reading romance since the age of seven and learned her
best vocabulary (dulcet, diaphanous, and turgid) from them. The day after her wedding
she woke up with an idea for a novel and she’s been writing romance ever since. She
lives in Southern California with her husband and young son.

Her captor. Her Savior. And her temptation...
London, 1814
Lady Jane Langley values logic and reason over passion and emotion. Her intellect has
given her value in the eyes of both her father and society. Logic gives way to
terrible, icy fear when Jane finds herself in a devastating carriage accident... an
accident in which she is helpless to do anything but watch as her aristocratic
companion is murdered.
But this was no mere accident. This was an assassination. Spy and grandson of Lord
Landsdowne, Gerard Badeau is methodic in his dark, shadowy work, knowing that any
display of emotion could get him killed. Something about the mysterious woman and her
cool blue eyes stays Gerard's lethal hand. Now he has both a witness and a hostage.
And if he doesn't kill Lady Jane Langley, he risks a fate that is far, far
worse...falling in love with her.
