1--What is the title of your latest release?
SERIAL BURN
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Fire marshal, Jesslyn McCormick is determined to find the arsonist responsible for the blaze that killed her family 20 years ago. As the anniversary approaches, a string of new fires, including one at her church, reignites old wounds and reveals new evidence. FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to investigate. As they work together, the case intensifies—and so does their chemistry. But when the terrifying truth comes out, she'll need Nathan and her community to help her survive a nightmare she thought was long behind her.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
It’s book 3 in the series so the location was already in place before I started writing.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Oh yes, absolutely. I really like Jesslyn’s character. She’s serious thanks to past tragedy, and very focused on finding who killed her family, but she does have a sense of humor and enjoys hanging out with her friends. So, yeah, we’d be friends in real life.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Driven, focused, yet compassionate too.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned what fire marshals do and don’t do. That was some deep dive research that I really enjoyed. I couldn’t use everything I learned in the story, of course, but it’s amazing what these people do to solve arson cases and more.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I go because I think of things to add as I go. If I waited until I was done to edit, I’d never remember what I needed to add to take out. I do take notes sometimes as a I write so I don’t have to stop at a particular place or time in the story, but I have learned to ALWAYS write it down so I can go back and fix later.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate chips.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I’m all over the place in terms of where I write. I do have a guest room in my house where I do zoom calls for meetings, etc., but I find myself working mostly at the bar in my kitchen or the dining room table.
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are so many authors to admire! LOL. I’m not sure I can narrow it down. Gabrielle Meyers, Dee Henderson, Susan May Warren, Colleen Coble, Jessica Patch, James Scott Bell, Jerry Jenkins, Charles Martin, Chris Fabry and the list goes on!
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
I can’t say ONE book changed my life. But it was books that led me to writing because I could find what I wanted to read and that was clean romance with suspense and the characters living out their faith while navigating the challenges of lie. I was reading the spicier books and wishing there was more faith element in them and less bedroom element! LOL. So, I decided to try my hand at writing one. That one didn’t get published, but the fact that I finished it encouraged me to continue writing and eventually to seek publication. And THAT changed my life.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I got the call when I was at Panera Bread in Spartanburg, SC. My agent had great news. Revell wanted to purchase my series that would become the Women of Justice series. I was stunned and excited and absolutely clueless about what it all meant, or what was to come, but it’s been an amazing journey so far.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romantic Suspense. Historical is a close second.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
The Sound of Music and Die Hard are tied for first place.
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
By ignoring it. Ha. But my family makes me go eat with them and insist on giving me gifts. But I could be confusing that with Christmas because my birthday is Dec 28th. So, full disclosure, they could completely forget my birthday and I’d never know it.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I love the Hallmark show called The Way Home and am anxiously waiting for Season Three!
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Mexican.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
What is free time?? Oh, you mean the hours between 2:00AM and 5:00AM? LOL!! Seriously, I love to grab my camera and my husband (need someone to carry the backpack with the gear) and head out to a state park or wildlife preserve and shoot pictures.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
In August 2025, FINAL APPROACH, Book #4 in the Lake City Heroes series releases then it’s on to the next series.
Lake City Heroes #3
She's out for justice. But the arsonist she's tracking is out for retribution.
Now the fire marshal of Lake City, Jesslyn McCormick is determined to find the person who started the fire that robbed her of her family when she was just seven years old. As the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy approaches, a string of fires--including at Jesslyn's church--brings up all those old feelings and offers new evidence.
Because church fires are considered a hate crime, FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to work with local law enforcement. Nathan has his own past--one he'd prefer not to revisit. And focusing on helping Jesslyn track down the arsonist is a great distraction.
As both the case and the chemistry between Jesslyn and Nathan heat up, memories will come flooding in from the past to bump up against hopes for the future. And when Jesslyn comes face-to-face with her worst nightmare, she'll have to confront her fears and rely on Nathan and her community of friends in order to survive.
