Book Title: A CONTROVERSIAL COVER
Character Name: David Price
How would you describe your family or your childhood?
Extremely happy. I’m the youngest of two boys and have a great relationship with my parents. I wish my girlfriend, Tricia Miles, could say the same—but then she’s close to her sister, Angelica.
What was your greatest talent?
Pivoting. When things take a turn, I can pivot and handle it. Well, so far, at least.
Significant other?
Tricia Miles.
Biggest challenge in relationships?
There’s a bit of an age gap. What’s twenty years between lovers? But I love that despite my lack of years, we have so much in common. And we’ve never not had something to talk about. These days, the art of conversation seems to be slipping away, but not with us. I can’t imagine ever being bored by such a fascinating woman.
Where do you live?
I live in Milford, New Hampshire, the next town over from Stoneham where Tricia lives and works in her mystery bookstore, Haven’t Got a Clue. I was never much of a mystery lover, but she’s been educating me on the classics, and I’ve enjoyed just about every book she’s suggested.
Do you have any enemies?
Not that I know of.
How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place?
The history. I’ve done research on the old Morrison Mansion, which is owned by Nigela Racita and Angelica, Tricia sister, is helping to refurbish. In particular, the lost gardens. It’s my fervent hope that one day they’ll be restored to their former glory.
Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?
No children—no pets. Between my job and spending time with Tricia, I couldn’t devote the time a pet (cat or dog) deserves, although I’ve been considering getting a beta fish.
What do you do for a living?
I’m a children’s librarian at the Stoneham Library.
Greatest disappointment?
So far, nothing. Life’s a great adventure.
Greatest source of joy?
Watching kids grow to love reading and helping them find books that will nurture that love.
What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?
I collect antique and vintage china, porcelain, and silver cutlery. And, of course, I’m a voracious reader. Sometimes Tricia and I spend hours together just reading.
What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?
I’m a lousy cook. That doesn’t seem very important—until you’re hungry.
What keeps you awake at night?
Worrying about Tricia when she’s off sleuthing. She has a tendency to come across dead bodies and feels compelled to find out what happened to them and why.
What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?
I might lose my job because my new boss took a dislike to me. She didn’t hire me, and now it seems like her goal in life is to get rid of me.
Is there something that you need or want that you don’t have? For yourself or for someone important to you?
Not so far. I mean, I want lots of things. But people are more important than things. Material things can be replaced. People…not so much.
What are your plans for the future?
To be with Tricia. I also wouldn’t mind a side gig that involves antiques. I guess I’m a throwback. I like old things, old people, and I like to have them around.
When a famous children's author is murdered at the library, Tricia Miles has to find the killer before it's too late in the latest entry to Lorna Barrett's New York Times bestselling Booktown series.
Tricia Miles is ready to close the book on all her amateur sluething—she's tired of finding dead bodies and being accused of murder. But even the best laid plans often go awry.
Stoneham is all abuzz when Lauren Barker, a famous children's book author, arrives for an event at the local library. Lauren is a Stoneham native, and her new book strikes some members of the town as controversial. But when Lauren is found strangled to death after an altercation at the event, the plot twist throws Tricia right back into the middle of things.
Who could possibly have wanted Lauren dead? Was it Dan Reed, who had to be thrown out of the signing for spouting conspiracy theories and causing a disturbance? Stella Kraft, Lauren’s high school teacher, who thought of the author as a protégé—something Lauren violently disputed? Or the mystery man who spoke to Lauren just before she was found dead? With the suspect count climbing higher and more information about Lauren's past coming to light, will Tricia be able to give this story a happily ever after?

The immensely popular Booktown Mystery series is what first put Lorraine Bartlett’s pen name Lorna Barrett on the New York Times Bestseller list, but it’s her talent -- whether writing as Lorna, or L.L. Bartlett, or Lorraine Bartlett—that keeps her in her readers’ hearts. This multi-published, Agatha-nominated author also pens the exciting Jeff Resnick Mysteries as well as the acclaimed Victoria Square and Lotus Bay Mystery series, and the Tales of Blythe Cove Manor, and has many short stories and novellas to her name(s).
