Suzanne Allain | Author-Reader Match: THE LADIES REWRITE THE RULES

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Suzanne Allain!

Writes:

Regency-era Rom-Coms. My latest, THE LADIES REWRITE THE RULES, comes out January 9, 2024. Think Jane Austen’s EMMA meets BARBIE.

About:

Self-deprecating funny girl looking for someone to laugh at her jokes. My book MR. MALCOLM’S LIST was made into a movie!

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

  • You’re a fan of Jane Austen and/or Arrested Development, The Office, Parks & Rec, and Nate Bargatze. (Note: My book is a historical romance, so has nothing in common with any of the tv shows/comedians listed. I just want to know if you have a good sense of humor and if we could hang out.)
  • You like a lot of spice in your Thai food, not necessarily your books. Though there is some kissing, my books are all closed-door.
  • You like books written in third-person omniscient point-of-view, because you want to know what all the characters are thinking and feeling, not just a measly one or two. And because the best authors use it. (See: Jane Austen.)

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • You will enjoy reading sweet, funny romances that also feature heartwarming female friendships. I will write these for you. You’re welcome.
  • If you start following me on social media, you’ll be pleasantly surprised I’m still alive whenever I post.
  • As long as we’re talking about social media, don’t be alarmed if you see me post something and then delete it a few seconds later. That’s totally normal behavior. The authors you should worry about are the ones who are super self-confident and post brilliant stuff constantly. I mean, when do they write? (And can they teach me their secret?)
  • You’ll be the first to hear about the funniest book I’ve written yet, THE WRONG LADY MEETS LORD RIGHT, coming in December 2024.

THE LADIES REWRITE THE RULES by Suzanne Allain

The Ladies Rewrite the Rules

From the author of Mr. Malcolm's List comes a delightful romantic comedy set in Regency England about a widow who takes high society by storm.

Diana Boyle, a wealthy young widow, has no desire to ever marry again. Particularly not to someone who merely wants her for her fortune.

So when she discovers that she’s listed in a directory of rich, single women she is furious, and rightly so. She confronts Maxwell Dean, the man who published the Bachelor’s Directory, and is horrified to find he is far more attractive than his actions have led her to expect. However, Diana is unmoved by Max’s explanation that he authored the list to assist younger sons like himself who cannot afford to marry unless it’s to a woman of means.

She gathers the ladies in the directory together to inform them of its existence, so they may circumvent fortune hunters’ efforts to trick them into marriage. Though outraged, the women decide to embrace their unique position of power and reverse the usual gender roles by making the men dance to their tune. And together…the ladies rewrite the rules.
