What is the title of your latest release?
A LADY'S RULES FOR RUIN
What's the "elevator pitch" for your new book?
A Lady's Rules for Ruin is about a Regency lady who has zero interest in getting married, even though her family (and society) keeps pressuring her to do just that. So she comes up with a great solution to her dilemma: she devises a plot for her own ruination!
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Most of my books take place in London, at least partially, because that was "the center of the world" in the Regency period. But a lot of my books also contain a least a little bit of traveling: In this one, the characters journey north to the beautiful Lake District of England.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Of course! Although I'm not sure if she'd like hanging out with me! We'd definitely find common ground in our love of books, though!
What are three words that describe your hero?
Hot, honorable, and head-over-heels
What's something you learned while writing this book?
I learned that modern readers will see things that would be seen as "normal" in Regency England, like men completely controlling their female relatives, as absolute villainy! There is a character in this book who behaves like a normal man might at the time, but oh my gosh do readers DESPISE him! LOL!
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit lightly as I draft, but I do the majority of editing after I am totally done.
What's your favorite foodie indulgence?
I have so many, and it varies depending on what I'm craving at the time. Right now, I'd so love a slice of really good pizza!
Describe your writing space/office!
I like to write in the cabin of my sailboat, because it's quiet and free of the distractions in my office at home. I sit on the bench seat at a little wooden table. I play music on a Bluetooth speaker, or sometimes I just write while listening to the little waves lapping against the hull.
Who is an author you admire?
Julia Quinn. I love her stories (they make me happy), her positive attitude, and how involved she is in translating her Bridgerton books into the TV show.
Is there a book that changed your life?
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon—I never knew historical romance existed before I read Outlander. That led me to reading Julie Garwood and some of the old bodice rippers, and I've never looked back!
Tell us about when you got "the call." (when you found out your book was going to be published)
Life happened, so I had withdrawn from publishing for a few years. But I really wanted to start writing historical romances again, and when Heather Howland at Entangled called me up and said she liked my pitch, I was SO excited. It's wonderful to be writing happily ever afters again!
What's your favorite genre to read?
I have eclectic tastes, for sure. Overall, I'd say my second favorite (after Historical Romance) is suspense/thriller. I love edge-of-your seat thrillers!
What's your favorite movie?
I don't have one! I could list a hundred that I absolutely love. One standout is The Princess Bride because it always makes me smile.
What is your favorite season?
I used to always love summer, but now I'm more of a winter girl. I love cuddling up under a soft, warm blanket and reading!
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
By seeing my family! And I like to take the day to NOT COOK. LOL! Having someone else cook for me is the best gift ever.
What's a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I just re-watched The Summer I Turned Pretty (both seasons) and really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the third season!
What's your favorite type of cuisine?
I love all types of cuisine! Right now, I am hankering Japanese food for some reason. A yummy sushi roll...mmmm!
What do you do when you have free time?
I read, take long walks with my dog, and go sailing on the San Diego Bay.
What can readers expect from you next?
I'm super excited about my upcoming enemies-to-lovers historical romance (tentatively titled DUKES DIVE IN) releasing in early 2024. And then I have a pair of YA historical romances coming soon. We're calling it "Bridgerton meets The Summer I Turned Pretty." SO EXCITED!

Jennifer Haymore grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii, where she surfed, learned how to fly airplanes, raced bicycles, and developed a love for sailing. She was an avid reader and completely destroyed her eyesight by sneaking a flashlight under her covers and reading far into the nights — making her mother wonder why on earth she couldn't get up for school in the mornings...
Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UC Berkeley and a master's degree in Education from UCLA. Before she became a full–time writer she held various jobs from bookselling to teaching inner–city children to playing bit roles in soap operas.
You can find Jennifer in Southern California trying to talk her husband into yet another trip to England, helping her three children with homework while brainstorming a new five–minute dinner menu, or crouched in a corner of the local bookstore writing her next novel.
