1--What is the title of your latest release?

A MATTER OF HIVE AND DEATH out March 29, 2022.

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

It’s the second in the Oregon Honeycomb Series. For the picturesque town of Oceanview on the Oregon Coast, May brings blossoming fruit trees and the annual UFO festival. As Aunt Eloise tries out alien costumes on their Havana brown cat Everett, Wren is off to meet with a bee wrangler, her go-to guy for local fruit tree honey.

But when she arrives, Elias Brentwood is lying on the ground amidst destroyed hives and a swarm of angry bees. The bees didn’t kill him, a blow to the head did. As blue-eyed Officer Jim Hampton investigates and the town is invaded by its own swarm of conspiracy theorists and crackpots, Wren and Aunt Eloise decide the only way to catch the bee wrangler’s killer is to set up a sting…

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I love the Oregon coast and traveled there several times while living in Portland. I knew it had to be featured in a book.

4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Yes! Definitely! In fact, I do hang out with them for months while I write the book and enjoy their thoughts. I also admire women who aren’t afraid to take things into their own hands to solve a problem.

5--What are three words that describe your hero?

Hmmm, Skeptic, Handsome, and Heart-of-gold – does it make it one word if I hyphen it?

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about bees. One of the things I learned was that bees will abandon a hive and swarm with the queen when their hive is destroyed. Also, bees can identify individual human faces. So don’t treat a bee badly. They remember.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Good question! I do both, especially if I feel stuck. I’ll go through and do a good edit then finish. The key is to not let the edits keep you from finishing the book.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Anything chocolate – especially dark chocolate.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

Answer: I have a nice desk and office chair, which has lots of books on shelves around it, but I also use a laptop desk and write in bed.

10--Who is an author you admire?

This is always so hard because there are so many wonderful authors – especially mystery authors. To name a few- Maddie Day/Edith Maxwell, Amanda Flower, Mary Lee Ashford, Kylie Logan, Valerie Burns, Heather Webber, Catriona McPherson, Denise Swanson… and so many more.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Answer:

So many books that were and still are life changing. That’s the best part about books, isn’t it? They stay with you and make you think and see things differently.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

Ah, that first book feeling. What a joy! I jumped up and down. I cried a little. It was so validating that I really could do something like write a book that was good enough to be published. Also, I was a little terrified. But that makes it all the better, doesn’t it?

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Mystery all the way. I love cozy mysteries, thrillers, bigger mysteries, all sorts. I’m sure by now you know I’m a huge book nerd.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Knives Out

15--What is your favorite season?

Fall! Love the cooler air, the pumpkins, the scarecrows, the caramel apples.

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

This year was a big birthday- one of those that end with 0. I spent it at the beach for a full week with my family. It was grand!

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Only Murders in the Building – loved it!

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

American: meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, hamburgers, French fries, steak, and baked potatoes. Do you sense a theme?

19--What do you do when you have free time?

I took up weaving last year. I have a Rigid Heddle loom and so far, I’ve woven scarves, a shawl, some coasters and I’m currently working on placemats.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

The 10th in the Candy-coated Mystery series, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S FUDGE will be out May 24th, 2022
