1--What is the title of your latest release?

OBSESSION, Natchez Trace Park Rangers Book 2

2--What is it about?

Natchez Trace Ranger and historian Emma Winters hoped never to see Sam Ryker again after she broke off her engagement to him. But when shots are fired at her at a historical landmark just off the Natchez Trace, she's forced to work alongside Sam as the Natchez Trace law enforcement district ranger in the ensuing investigation. To complicate matters, Emma has acquired a delusional secret admirer who is determined to have her as his own. Sam is merely an obstruction, one which must be removed.

Sam knows that he has failed Emma in the past and he doesn't intend to let her down again. Especially since her life is on the line. As the threads of the investigation cross and tangle with their own personal history, Sam and Emma have a chance to discover the truth, not only about the victim but about what went wrong in their relationship

3--What do you love about the setting of your book?

I fell in love with Natchez and Mount Locust the first time I traveled to Natchez on the Natchez Trace. It is such a beautiful place with so much history behind it. Mount Locust is the oldest inn on the Trace if you could call a four-room house where lodgers slept on the front porch and ground an inn.

4--How did your main character(s) surprise you?

Both surprised me with their tenacity. Emma in a positive way with her dogged pursuit of discovering what was buried at Mount Locust. Sam surprised me in a negative way with his refusal to forgive his father.

5--Why will readers relate to your characters?

In a world where too often justice is thwarted, both Emma and Sam are working to make sure justice is done at Mount Locust. Of course, they have to work through their flaws in order to accomplish that.

6--What was one of your biggest challenges while writing this book (spoiler-free, of course!)?

Understanding the mind of the antagonist. It's hard for me to put myself into the antagonist's head, but it's something I have to do in order to make the person real. This one was particularly hard because he suffered from erotomania--believing that the heroine was in love with him when she had no idea of his feelings and didn't return them.

7--Do you look forward to or do you dread the revision process?

As I struggle to get the first draft down, I keep telling myself I can't edit what I haven't written, so the answer is I look forward to revision.

8--What’s your favorite snack to have on hand while writing?

Chocolate, but I settle for apples or carrots. :-)

9--Where would you go for an ideal writer’s retreat?

The writer's retreats I've attended have been in Florida and so intensive, I didn't have time to get out of the house...maybe back to the ocean or up to the mountains--I'm drawn to both.

10--What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve received?

Don't quit. I wrote for many years before being published--over thirty, and I've often thought “what if I'd stopped in January of that thirtieth year?” Obsession is my twelfth published book.

11--Who is the fictional character you want to hang out with the most? (anyone in literature!)

Ari from Leon Uris' Exodus. That character has stayed with me since I read the book as a fourteen-year-old.

12--What’s one of your earliest book memories?

Learning to read using the comic strips when I was five. Then on to reading library books and being upset that they wouldn't give me a library card because I wasn't in school yet.

13--If you had to write in a different genre, what would it be and why?

If I had to write in a different genre, it would be historical suspense set in the early 1800s before steamboats came into existence. I would love to do a suspense story set on the Natchez Trace when Meriweather Lewis died--his death is a mystery all by itself.

14--What song will automatically put you in a good mood?

Shout to the Lord! We sang it last week at church and every time I had a negative thought the words came back to me.

15--What is your favorite way to practice self-care?

Read. It's what I did as a kid for self-care and it's what I do now. Oh, and since I'm an exercise nut, I guess I should say exercise. I've done Pilates for the last sixteen years, plus water aerobics and before those two, walking.

16--What can you eat and never get sick of?

Homemade yeast rolls. I could eat them every meal, but seldom buy them for that reason. lol

17--Will you share a favorite, recent-ish book you recommend?

I was privileged to read Elizabeth Goddard's next release, Present Danger, and could not put it down.

18--Do you have any hobbies?

I love throwing a pound of clay on the wheel and centering it and making a mug or a vase or bowl. I also like rolling the clay out and cutting either small, free-form pieces or using cookie cutters to make pendants for necklaces and earrings.

19--Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Mostly an early bird--I used to get up at five a.m., but lately it's been closer to seven. Although I sometimes get a second wind around nine at night and can work until eleven--but from my understanding, that's usually when a night-owl starts. :-)

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I'm working on book four in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. Presently titled Deception, it's Clay Bradshaw's story. He's a district ranger now and has been in two of the other books. He and the heroine, FBI Agent Madison Thorn butt heads in an investigation.
