Alice Gaines: That’s quite a story, Adam. Did you say kidnapped?
Adam Morrow: Yeah, I thought I was seducing Nicole, but instead of going back to my hotel room, she suggested spending the night on her yacht. After some of the greatest sex of my life, I woke up to discover she’d had her captain put out to sea where there were no cell towers, so no phone reception or internet. From there she took me to an island paradise where she was building a luxury resort.
AG: Sounds romantic. Did the two of you fall in love again immediately?
AM: Probably. Although I didn’t realize it at the time. We started out as lovers when we were quite young. Then, her father broke us up. I decided to get my revenge by putting him out of business. When he died, he passed the company on to Nicole, and I continued my efforts to sink the company. I had help in the person of someone Nicole hated, and the feeling was mutual. So, I thought I was working on my plan to get revenge. Trouble was, the sex continued to be better than I’d had with anyone else. They lie when they say the route to a man’s heart is through his stomach. It’s through the bedroom.
AG: So, you were kind of double-crossing Nicole the whole time.
AM: I’m not proud of that. As I said, I had a silent partner in my plot to get revenge. That person was unwilling to drop the whole thing. She kept right on souring Nicole’s shareholders on the company even while I tried to rein her in.
AG: Another woman?
AM: Not exactly what that sounds like, but yeah.
AG: But you and Nicole eventually worked things out.
AM: It involved some drama, including about my silent partner, but I’m happy to say Nicole is now my wife.
AG: The book says it’s a Players’ Pact novel. What’s that about?
AM: A while back, my two best friends and I decided we’d given up on love. From then on, we’d enjoy ourselves with women who played by the same rules as we did--pleasure, yes; love no. Grant Howard is a star quarterback in the NFL. He and the wife he’d truly loved were divorced, and he swore off marriage. Ryan Stewart is not only the country’s leading sports doctor with his own television show, but he comes from a wealthy family. He got sick and tired of women wanting him for his money, so he gave up on love, too. I’m just waiting for the two of them to fall for the right woman.
