At the beginning of the year, our Fresh Fiction Reviewers set a goal to publish
2,400 reviews by the end of the year. We’ve published just over 2,600! We have some
amazing, and prolific, reviewers here at Fresh Fiction and I’m so proud and
lucky to
be part of this group. 2,600…that’s a lot of books and I know that next year we’re
going to set our goals higher.
That means, I need to read more books! Before I make a list of all the books I’m
looking forward to, I want to look back on some of my favorite YA books I read this
year.
FLAME by Amy Kathleen Ryan
FLAME
|
The conclusion to the Sky Chasers series, FLAME by Amy
Kathleen Ryan delivers the same intensity, surprises, and heartbreaking
consequences
that make this series a must read. |
TOUCH by Michelle Sagara
TOUCH
|
I cried before I reached page seven. To capture the
depth of grief and connect with the reader in such a short space is amazing. I
can’t
wait to read more in The Queen of the Dead series and everything by
Michelle Sagara. |
DEAD SET by Richard Kadrey
DEAD SET
|
Richard Kadrey is brash, unrepentant, and darkly funny
in all his work. DEAD SET combines all that with a fantastic world, dangerous
mission, and amazing characters. This is on the keep-for-all-time shelf. |
ASK ME by Kimberly Pauley
ASK ME
|
I love everything about ASK ME. Kimberly Pauley has
created a dark and gritty atmosphere to fit the steamy Florida setting and the
deadly mystery. |
DANGEROUS by Shannon Hale
DANGEROUS
|
Maisie Danger Brown is one of the best modern day
female super-hero I’ve ever read. She’s smart, talented, compassionate, and kicks-
butt when she needs to. |
EVIL LIBRARIAN by Michelle Knudson
EVIL LIBRARIAN
|
EVIL LIBRARIAN combined a sassy main character with
dark humor to create a story I could not put down. I love the sweet romance, but I
love even more that Cynthia’s main concern is protecting her best friend. |
GIRL FROM THE WELL by Rin Chupeco
GIRL FROM THE WELL
|
The first chapter of GIRL FROM THE WELL captures the
terrifying and haunting existence of Okiku, a spirit of vengeance who can never
rest. It’s gruesome, creepy, and vivid. I read it all in one night because I could
not put it down. |
THE SPIRITGLASS CHARADE by Colleen Gleason
THE SPIRITGLASS CHARADE
|
The Stoker and Holmes series is one of my
absolute favorites of the year. The concept is brilliant, but Colleen Gleason
delivers mysterious plots and intriguing characters that keep me coming back for
more. |
LYCH WAY by Ari Berk
LYNCH WAY
|
LYCH WAY is the conclusion to The Undertaken
Trilogy. I read all three books in this series back-to-back. They are that
good. |
