Sara Reyes | Bring on the Book Resolutions....

A new year and time to put into effect resolutions. Some resolve to become healthier, happier, successful, or more learned. I'd say knowledgeable but I'm fond of the word "learned." I think my fascination with the word "learned" began in my childhood when every year my grandmother resolved to read the entire Bible in a year. Yes, that is the childhood I had, but my grandmother had a different spin on the whole-book-in-a-year resolution. We already read the King James version every single day, but she'd come up with a different version or translation so we'd have our normal chapter or two of the KJV then we'd re-read in some other translation. My most memorable year was the year of the "New News for Modern Man" version. I seriously think she argued every single morning trying to reconcile the versions. But it all was in the quest of being "learned."

So what is your quest for 2010? Will you be increasing your reading numbers? Or perhaps you want to be more "accountable" and you're going to try to write down information about every book you read? Or maybe, you're going to try a genre or author very new to you, or one you've pooh poohed before? Perhaps you want to join or start a book club? Or go and meet a special dear-to-you author? Maybe you just want to join a couple of online groups.

Your resolution could be more physical. Perhaps you're determined to clean out your library, do a little pruning (oh the pain *grin*). Or maybe you're sure you'll be able to get new bookcases and bring out your collection?

Whatever your 2010 resolution is we'd like to hear about it, maybe we can help you succeed!

I'll start, my first resolution is not to eat left-over chocolate covered strawberries for breakfast until I have had at least two cups of coffee. Uh, seriously, I'm going to record the books I read --at least record the title -- this year. I'm a rabid reader, I see a book and I pick it up and start reading. To consciously record the title and track it is something I never considered before and I'd like to give it a shot.

Happy 2010 and may you read LOTS of new books! (and maybe re-read a few old favorites too!)

Until next time...

Re: Sara Reyes | Bring on the Book Resolutions....

I don't like making
resolutions because they have
been known to lead to
disaster, but my goal is to
get in some more reading time.
And perhaps read more of the
highly buzzed books.

Okay, my resolution is get up every morning at 7 am, do I don't have to rush around getting ready for work! As for book reading, I read 142 books in '09, hopefully I can read a few more than that this year!!I already keep a list in my day planner of the title and author of each book I read, that's the only way I can keep up with it..

My quest is to exercise in the morning. So far, I have not requested enough of myself or put it on my schedule.

I made a resolution a few years back not to make resolutions because I never keep them and always felt like a failure when I didn't keep them.

I read a lot, but I also own a lot of books - I've been trying to "prune" down my bookshelves by donating books I've read, or likely won't read to my local library.

I don't know about any resolutions. I haven't made any in quite a while. But I have been at the Romantic Times Message Board for a year or two and last year participated in some of the challenges. I'll be doing that again. On the whole I hope to read fewer books--meaning that I hope to be able to get around more and doing things like laundry, cleaning, etc. instead of having to lie down because I'm too sore or tired to be up. But who knows?

P.S. I record all my titles--at least try to. Some have fallen into obscurity or at least I have no complete record of them.

Have a great 2010, everybody.

I don't make resolutions and books are not to be accounted for in my house, I buy what I feel like reading. I do try not to buy all the books I see and stick to my favorite authors only.
