Atlanta, 4/30/08--Tonight at midnight, award-winning author
Karen White's highly
praised new novel,
THE
MEMORY OF WATER, officially becomes the May Book Club
selection for
NBC
affiliate 11 Alive's Atlanta & Company. White joins other
outstanding writers, such as
Joshilyn Jackson,
Pearl Cleage, and
Dorothea
Benton Frank, all of whom have had their best selling books chosen in recent
months. The selection will be announced on air on Thursday, May 1st.
Presented in conjunction with Borders Books & Music, the club selection is
featured throughout the month in all Atlanta area Borders stores. Capping the
shared month of reading, White will appear on Atlanta & Company to talk about
THE MEMORY OF WATER with
host Holly Firfer on Wednesday, May 28th. The
interview will also be seen online.
Noted as a top five best selling title for Wordsmiths Books earlier this month,
the book has been praised by readers and reviewers. Publishers Weekly calls
THE MEMORY OF WATER,
"engaging" and says "careful plotting, richly flawed
characters and a surprising conclusion mark this absorbing melodrama." Demand
for the book has been such that its March 4th on sale date was followed almost
immediately by a second printing.
Since receiving news of the book's selection for Atlanta & Company, White has
also learned that her 2007 novel LEARNING TO BREATHE has
received the Gayle
Wilson Award of Excellence (Southern Magic chapter of Romance Writers of
America) and is a finalist or nominee for numerous other awards. They are the
RITA Award (Romance Writers of America), the 2008 Award of Excellence (Colorado
Romance Writers), Georgia Author of the Year (Georgia Writers Association) and,
most recently, the National Readers' Choice Award, presented at the Romance
Writers of America national convention.
Karen White's recent appearances include the Atlanta Writers Club (4/19) and
the sold out Moveable Feast Literary Luncheon (4/18) presented by Litchfield
Books on Pawleys Island, North Carolina. She is next scheduled to appear at
the Roswell Library on May 18th. Her book, THE HOUSE ON TRADD
STREET is being
published in November 2008.
