Allie Harrison | What Makes You Afraid?

twittergoodreadsfacebook

Do scary movies or books send your heart pounding? Do the sounds of your house
settling wake you at night and keep you awake clutching your bedcovers? Do you
scream when you watch a video on Facebook where a girl rides a bicycle around
and a scary face jumps into the screen?

Generally scary movies don’t scare me. I do however thoroughly enjoy a twisted ending, like that in GONE GIRL. At Halloween I venture through haunted trails, thoroughly enjoying hikes through the woods or parks with scary scenes. I will admit the first movie I actually screamed during was the original When A Stranger Calls with Carol Kane. If you get the chance to see it, do. Of course seeing it in a full theater and having everyone else scream, too, adds to the scare. What really scares me is when things are real. Years ago, I had the opportunity to listen to Ann Rule who spoke about Ted Bundy and her book about him entitled THE STRANGER BESIDE ME. She had sat beside him in a college class and called him a friend. Learning he was a serial killer was hard for her to accept. That, to me, is real and much more scary than a haunted trail. When I watched the movie The Strangers, I found it much more frightening than the usual slasher or unbelievable idea like the movie Urban Legend.

So now you know what scares me. Not necessarily things that go bump in the
nightβ€”unless it’s a real intruder!

What about you? What scares you? Ghosts? Dark, creepy basements?

In my newest book, HARGROVE HOUSE, Torrie enters and restores a haunted house. Would you enter a haunted house to save your business? Would you venture down into the cellar if the man you loved waited for you down there?

HARGROVE HOUSE

About HARGROVE HOUSE

As a child, Torrie Reynolds entered the haunted Hargrove House on a dare. Terrified by what she'd heard while inside Hargrove House, she avoided it since.

Now fifteen years later, Torrie is an interior decorator. When Will Dalton buys
the infamous Hargrove House and offers Torrie the job of refurbishing it, she
has no choice but to take the offer to keep her business afloat. As the house
is restored and rooms come alive with character and color Torrie brings to
them, her fear of the house fades. Hargrove House begins to even feel like home
to her.

With each finished renovation project, it is harder for Torrie to leave. It is even harder for her to leave the comfort of Will Dalton's arms. But she discovers there are things more terrifying than ghosts when she learns why Will is digging in the dark, frightening cellar.

Re: Allie Harrison | What Makes You Afraid?

There are a lot of things that scare me. Being less than 10
feet away from a bank robber, when I worked for a bank, makes
me scared every time I have to go to the bank. He gained
entry to the rear of the bank with the bank Manager, and had
a gun. To have our house robbed while my Husband and I were
sleeping, knowing that the person who robbed us had my
Husband's gun, scares me. The Police told us that if either
one of us would have woke up, we would have been killed.
It's not a sobering thought. I also don't like scary movies.
There have been enough bad things that happened in my life,
that I don't need to watch scary movies on top of it, to add
to the horror. I prefer uplifting things. The only thing I
will do, however, is read horror novels. Your book sounds
like something that will keep me on the edge of my seat,
frantically flipping the pages!! Congratulations on your
latest book!! It's already on my TBR list, for my
Fall/Winter reading list!!

Hi Peggy, Nice to meet you! Yes, having a gun in your face would be really scary. I understand completely why you wouldn't want to watch scary movies or go back into the bank. Thank you so much for adding my HARGROVE HOUSE to your TBR list! I look forward to hearing what you think of it. And Montgomery Manor should be available in Jan 2016! Stay safe!
