Ava Miles | The Story Behind NORA ROBERTS LAND: Turning Lemons Into Lemonade

So, hi there. I'm Ava Miles, the writer everyone is wondering about since I have "Nora Roberts" in my title. Thanks to Fresh Fiction for giving me the chance to explain.

NORA ROBERTS LAND is truly an example of the old adage: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. A number of years ago, my sister, Michelle was going through marital problems, which ended up leading to divorce. One day, she called me and said her now ex had blamed their issues on her reading Nora Roberts books. They'd put "ideas" in her head, making her want some unrealistic happily ever after.

My immediate response was shock. "No, he didn't." Snap. Our two other sisters and my mom all had the same reaction. We couldn't believe it! We love Nora, and his accusation was pure crap. Her ex ended up earning a not-so-nice nickname—which is why my heroine, Meredith Hale's ex husband had to be called Rick-the-Dick in the book.

A few years later, I was calling in a new contemporary romance novel idea, and bam, a plot around my sister's experience popped out of my subconscious. My heroine, Meredith Hale, would go a step further though. She'd return to her hometown to prove her ex wrong and show everyone you can have a happily ever after—or what Meredith's mom calls Nora Roberts Land. Meredith is determined to date all the sexy Nora Roberts archetypes in her small town of Dare Valley, Colorado. Her sister, Jill, is her partner in crime because sisters rock, especially when they aren't stealing your clothes or hogging the bathroom.

With the idea now blossoming into a full plot line, I wanted to make sure Nora would be okay with it. We're in the same local chapter of Washington Romance Writers, but I hadn't met her. However, I knew her dear friend, so I reached out—and the rest is history.

Nora's books have meant so much to me and my family personally that it's a treat to allude to our favorite sexy heroes in NORA ROBERTS LAND as Meredith and Jill determine Meredith's Nora-hero type so she can start dating them. And of course, the hero exceeds all her expectations. Tanner McBride holds his own as a steamy Nora-type hero. I'm so excited to see what readers think. NORA ROBERTS LAND went on sale on July 2 in both e-book and a print-on-demand form. If you'd like to join all the fun we plan to have before the release with contests and excerpts and other exciting stuff, I'd love for you to connect with me at Ava's Website | Ava's Facebook | Nora Roberts Land Page | Ava's Twitter | Ava's Pinterest.

AVA MILES

Ava Miles, author of the just published novel NORA ROBERTS LAND, her first published novel and the first book in her Dare Valley Series, has always known what she appreciates the most about romance novels. It's the affirmation of romantic love and the guarantee of a "happily ever after."  Following a full time career involving war zones, Ava now writes full time and, so far, her novels all involve happy endings. A descendant of generations of journalists, Ava--a writer since childhood--now lives in her own porch-swinging-friendly community with an old-fashioned Main Street lined with small businesses.  Much like the Dare Valley of her first series.

Apparantly I'm missing out on something, because I've never read a Nora Roberts book before, even though I've seen her books plastered everywhere I look when I go to the store, a thousand times!! She seems to have an endless supply of material, which apparantly is to her credit. I feel badly for your Sister, since divorce is never easy, but usually better things stem from it. I wish her well. As for your book, I'm anxious to read it for personal reasons. I'm hoping it will be a stepping stone, too, to get me started, not only on your books, but on Nora Roberts' books as well!! Congratulations on what I'm sure will be a bit hit!!

Having read all of Nora Roberts' books (as well as those written under her
pseudonym, J.D. Robb) the title of your book sounded fun and intriguing.
It sounds like a really enjoyable read and my kind of book! Congratulations
and thanks for the giveaway!!! Way to make lemonade!!!

I can't believe there isn't anyone of the female species that hasn't read
Nora Roberts. Her characters are great. It will be fun to see what you so
with them. Great concept.

I love Nora Roberts. I love that you are writing your
sister's story which most of us can relate to because we have
either being through it ourselves or have a friend that has
being in this situation.

I read and enjoyed one of Roberts' books, got another waiting. I'm just wondering how your book will be shelved in a bookstore - it'll confuse someone no matter where they are put!

I like the premise and think that you have garnered a set of
readers who already like romance and give them more of what
they like.

Hello, my name is Brigitte. I'm making an attempt to familiarize myself with the wonderful world of writing. I have Nora Roberts on my long list of books to read. I haven't been able to read due to catoring to my boys. They're in school now, and I have time to revisit my writing. Ava, it sounds to me like your brother-n-law is trying to blame someone else in the demise of his marriage. Look at it like this: your sister should be happier, and you have a story (if its okay with your sis)! ;-)

I have read all the Nora Roberts books I could and find what you're doing great. Can't wait to read it and thank you for the chance to win !!
