Book Title: TWO’S A CHARM
Character Name: Bonnie Chalmers / Effie Chalmers
How would you describe your family or your childhood?
Bonnie: Pretty great! Friends, sleepovers, pranking Effie – what a blast! And Mom was my hero. Still is.
Effie: Like a big hug. Our mom was the best – she was everything to us, and made everything special. We grew up in the ramshackle house that Bonnie and I still live in, and every room is filled with memories of board games, arts and crafts, and baking. It’s been hard this past year, but we’re doing our best to heal.
What was your greatest talent?
Bonnie: Just one? Um, I’m a people person. Like, really a people person. And I look good in anything. Also magic.
Effie: Being able to find any book in the library just like that. Also magic.
Significant other?
Bonnie: Oh, I don’t do relationships. Even though…no, not going there.
Effie: My best friend Tess, who’s always been there for me. Although…maybe I have my eye on someone.
Biggest challenge in relationships?
Bonnie: Ugh, relationships. They’re so overrated, don’t you think? Besides, I’m plenty busy renovating the Silver Slipper and making sure my posse of BFFs behave themselves. Oh, unless you mean my relationship with my sister? Not commenting on her outfits. Takes all my strength.
Effie: Speaking up about how I feel. Bonnie is the exception, because my sister is possibly the world’s worst roommate, and needs to hear exactly how her endless showers impact the water bill. Which she always forgets to pay, mind you!
Where do you live?
Bonnie: Yellowbrick Grove, the most beautiful town you’ve ever seen. It’s bursting with cute little buildings, and surrounded by forests and mountains. And there’s a great bar called the Silver Slipper that should totally be on your radar.
Effie: Is “the library” an acceptable answer?
Do you have any enemies?
Bonnie: Of course! But that’s their problem, not mine.
Effie: I don’t think so, unless the patron who keeps dog-earing the library books counts. But enemy is a strong word, isn’t it?
How do you feel about the place where you are now? Is there something you are particularly attached to, or particularly repelled by, in this place?
Bonnie: I love this little town – who doesn’t love being a big fish in a picturesque pond? Our uncle, though, he’s a piece of work.
Effie: I’m learning to love it, although the arts and culture scene is definitely lacking. Our uncle, though, he’s a piece of work.
Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?
Bonnie: A cat – Agatha – and four kittens. Effie was convinced they were ghosts. It’s a whole story, but I won’t spoil it for you. Kids? Absolutely not.
Effie: I’m a cat lady by nature, but the thought of children…actually doesn’t sound so bad. I love the idea of teaching a little version of me to read. Think of all the books we could enjoy together!
What do you do for a living?
Bonnie: I run my very own bar in the heart of Yellowbrick Grove! You should stop by sometime – first drink’s on me!
Effie: I’m head librarian at the Yellowbrick Grove library, which involves putting together lots of community programs. And buying extra chairs for Romance Book Club, which is always full.
Greatest disappointment?
Bonnie: Irrelevant, your honor.
Effie: That I tried and failed to get through Proust.
Greatest source of joy?
Bonnie: The perfect pair of shoes. And also…being a business owner is surprisingly cool.
Effie: Nothing compares with reading a good book in my comfy bedroom chair. Except casting a frizz hex on Bonnie’s hair straightener. (She deserved it.)
What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?
Bonnie: I’m game to try anything so long as I can sweet talk my way out of the consequences.
Effie: Books are always the answer. And thrifting with my best friend Tessa. And – please don’t share this – roller skating.
What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?
Bonnie: Okay, so maybe I could be better about asking for help when I need it.
Effie: I could probably be a bit less judgmental. But sometimes people deserve it!
What keeps you awake at night?
Bonnie: Um, I probably shouldn't admit this, but I did make what some call a deal with the devil. But I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Effie: Other than the poltergeist I swear haunts Bonnie’s room? Everything. Bills, the future, keeping Mom’s legacy alive.
What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?
Bonnie: Making the Silver Slipper profitable before my line of credit runs out. And, um, avoiding the consequences of that whole deal with the devil thing. But I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Effie: Making sure Bonnie stays out of trouble. And this new guy from the city who seems to show up everywhere I go. What’s all that about?
Narrator: Georgina Sadler, Kristen DiMercurio

Sisters by chance; rivals by choice. A bookish cosy fantasy about two witches uncovering dark magic in a small town, for fans of Emily Grimoire and Erin Sterling.
Sisters Effie and Bonnie might both be witches, but they’re worlds apart. Reserved and bookish, Effie finds solace in library corners, while Bonnie knows all about being popular. They strive to stay away from one another – a challenging task in the confines of their small hometown, Yellowbrick Grove.
When their estranged Uncle Oswald draws Bonnie into a magical scheme under the guise of helping the locals, Bonnie readily agrees. But it turns out no good deed goes unpunished – Oswald’s real motives are truly wicked.
Within a day, Bonnie’s spells start misfiring and Effie notices something sinister taking root.
Can they unite to reverse this magical mishap? Or is life as they knew it over for good?
