Describe your writing space/office!
I write in a small upstairs room in our 1925 Craftsman house in Burlington, Vermont. My desk—an old pine dining room table I found at a garage sale—is set in front of a huge window. When I’m not staring into my computer screen, I can watch the comings and goings in my neighborhood as well as the sailboats and kayakers on Lake Champlain in the distance. It’s a western view so I also get amazing sunsets over the Adirondacks. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see A LOT of sunset pictures!
Who is an author you admire?
Claire Pooley. She really gets into the head of her characters and oh but they are always so full of charm and wit.
Is there a book that changed your life?
Atonement by Ian McEwan. Brilliant story, brilliant writing. It got under my skin and stayed there.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was at a dinner party, and I excused myself when I saw my agent’s name come up on my phone. Otherwise, I never would have left because this friend is an amazing cook. Plus, she’s British and she finds it incredibly rude to use one’s phone during a meal.
