1--What is the title of your latest release?
A CONSTANT LOVE
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A CONSTANT LOVE is an action, adventure romance that focuses on finding hope and love in the wake of tragedy and secrecy that seems necessary to protect loved ones from harm.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
It’s part of a three-book series set in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I had published a previous series set in Cheyenne, and this one follows up 20 years later.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Charlotte is my heroine, and I would hang out with her. She’s been burdened with guilt and has suffered loss. She’s compassionate and understanding, but also strong and able to face adversity. She would be good to talk to about troubles.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Answer: Enduring, Hopeful and Strong
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
This book is set after the very bad winter of 1886-87. The summer of 1886 had left the area of Cheyenne in a drought. Then came early snows and deadly cold. The cattle and other livestock suffered from lack of food. In January of 1887 things warmed up when a Chinook blew in, but this relief was short-lived. The snows melted, but then the sub-zero temperatures returned and created a hard layer of ice on the ground making it impossible for the animals to reach even the poor bits of grass left from summer. Hundreds of thousands of animals died. It was called The Great Die-Up.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I go and then after completing the manuscript, edit a few more times.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Lately it’s been Chinese food. Love orange chicken!
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I have a nice office about 12x10’ with a large desk and several bookshelves. I love working from a desktop computer and usually do all my creating and research here.
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are so many. It’s impossible to pick just one. I’m a huge fan of Judith Miller, Kimberley Woodhouse and Misty Beller for their care and accuracy in writing historicals and heart for God. I have so many more that I admire for the same reason and many others. And that’s just a taste of the fiction authors.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
A great many have. I loved Sensible Shoes by Sharon Garlough Brown for the spiritual aspects it shares. Kimberley Woodhouse’s Alaskan Cyber Hunters series made me more aware of all the cyber dangers out there – probably more aware than I’d like to be. The Red Sea Rules by Robert Morgan was a tremendous blessing spiritually. Again, too many to name just one.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I remember talking to my editor about books I’d like to write and topics I’d like to deal with. She was so supportive of this book, even though it deals with some very difficult issues. She encouraged me to “go for it” and do what God was calling me to do. I so appreciated that attitude and heart from my publishing team.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Historical romance
14--What’s your favorite movie?
This week it’s THE LAST HOLIDAY
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn – love the way the air gets crisp and the colors change.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Quietly with friends, maybe a shared dinner and lots of laughter.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
The Men Who Built America series
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
This week I’m craving Chinese food – crispy chicken, orange chicken, crab rangoon, etc.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
For the last year there hasn’t been much of that stuff called free time, but when it creeps around, I love playing bingo with my church ladies, quilting, reading and just watching tv with my hubby.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
After the Hope of Cheyenne series – which is 3 books – I will be moving on to a series of generational stories set in Minneapolis, MN. I’m researching it now and it should be loads of fun.
