Until Our Time Comes, July 2024

1--What is the title of your latest release?

UNTIL OUR TIME COMES

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

The German invasion of Poland derails Adia Kensington's plans to learn from the greatest breeders of Arabian horses in the world but brings a British spy to her aid. Amidst the Blitzkrieg and a tense occupation, the two clash over everything—except their efforts to save the horses. Based on true events.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

The story is based on true events in WWII, so the setting came to me because the true story and the unique circumstances became something that I couldn’t let go, and it became a story I just had to write.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Absolutely—she’s as horse-obsessed as I am and also cares deeply for the helpless.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Stubborn, hard-working, passionate.

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about Polish history and Polish culture and became quite entranced with the country itself. It’s on my bucket-list to visit Poland and Janów Podlaski (the stables where the book takes place) in real life one day.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Generally, I try to get a rough draft down as quickly as I can and then I go back and edit. I’ll even put in special characters or placeholders to remind myself what needs editing or adding in at a later stage of the process.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I love sushi and sashimi.

9--Describe your writing space/office!

My writing space (unsurprisingly) is also home to our family guinea pigs, who keep me company all day. I have a treadmill beside the desk for whenever I feel stuck and need to get some more oxygen to my brain. My writing device of choice is actually my iPad, where I am better able to single-task and have fewer windows open at any time.

10--Who is an author you admire?

Sarah Sundin was one of the pioneers of the WWII Christian Historical Fiction genre, and her romances always appealed to me. She’s also so detail-oriented and tells such stirring stories in a captivating and inspiring way.

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Francine River’s Mark of the Lion series was very impactful to me as I was discovering the inspirational fiction genre and also shaped how I felt writing could be both raw and hopeful.

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I have submitted this book to publishers in various varieties for more than 15 years and continually adjusted the book based on their feedback. In 2021, my agent and I figured we’d give it one more go and there were five publishers we had on our list. After that, I had decided it would be best to give this book a shot by self-publishing it. Four of those publishers had rejected it (very kindly!) and I’d just about given up. Then, we sent a final nudge to Revell, who’d had the proposal for a while but not responded. Miraculously, this book landed on the desk of Rachel McRae, who happened to love Poland and its history. It also fell on her desk right after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, and the storyline felt even more relevant. My agent called me with the news, and I was flabbergasted. God’s timing was incredible.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Anything historical fiction and historical romance.

14--What’s your favorite movie?

Secondhand Lions – it’s a beautiful story with love, family, and (of course) animals.

15--What is your favorite season?

Autumn

16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I enjoy going for a drive to the beach, visiting the used bookstore there, eating some good food and walking in the sand.

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

One of my favorite recent books is The Wings of Poppy Pendleton by Melanie Dobson—her tales are always enthralling.

18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Thai food is perhaps my all-time favorite.

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Write novels.

20--What can readers expect from you next?

I’m always writing another book and would love to share another story with romance (and of course, horses.) My next project is yet to be decided, but you can bet it will include those pieces.

UNTIL OUR TIME COMES by Nicole M. Miller

Until Our Time Comes

WWII Historical Romance Debut Fiction Book about the True History of Janów Podlaski Arabian Horses

American horse trainer Adia Kensington is living her dream of working at the famous Janów Podlaski stables in Poland, where they breed the best Arabian horses in the world. But her plans to bring the priceless stallion Lubor to the US are derailed when the German army storms into her adopted country in 1939. Little does she know this is just the beginning of six long years of occupation that will threaten her beloved horses at every turn.

Major Bret Conway is at Janów Podlaski under the guise of a news reporter, but his true mission is intelligence gathering for the British. That and keeping Adia safe, which is harder and harder to do as she insists they must evacuate 250 horses to save them from being stolen, sold, or eaten by the invading forces. What follows will test their physical, mental, and emotional strength, as well as their faith in God, humankind, and each other.

Drawn from true events of World War II, this epic story of escape, capture, resistance, and love from debut novelist Nicole M. Miller will thunder into your heart like a herd of beautiful horses across a raging river.
