1--What is the title of your latest release?
ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
When an introvert agrees to fake-date a Scottish celebrity, she ends up living her own Roman Holiday.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I’ve wanted to write a story set in Italy for a long time. I have extended family there and absolutely love spending time there. Also, my story is a modern twist on Roman Holiday, so Rome was the perfect fit. I chose Scotland for my fake boyfriend’s home country because I recently finished a school degree in Edinburgh (online, sadly, but I hope to go someday).
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely. I love quirky travel buddies.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Jaded, funny, vegan.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned that when looking through the Aventine Keyhole in Rome, you can see two sovereign states at the same time, and also that there’s a museum of broken relationships in Zagreb!
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I am constantly editing, both where I am in the story and all through it.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
All types of chocolate and most types of potatoes. Caramel is pretty good, too. I am not going to pass up a caramel.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
Wherever my laptop is. Usually my family room or bedroom. I do have an office, though. It’s still getting set up.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Dead, I love Thomas Hardy. Living, I would say Edwidge Danticat.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
All Quiet on the Western Front. I read it in seventh grade and vividly remembered parts of the book for decades without rereading it.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call” (when you found out your book was going to be published).
My agent sent me a text that said, “Call me!!!!” but even then, I wasn’t sure I had gotten an offer. An editor from another imprint at the same company had pulled out because my editor was interested, and we didn’t know if that meant I’d get an offer or only if she was being given the right of first pass. So I was worried my agent had bad news for me. It took a little while for the good news to sink in.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Classics and romance. I guess that makes it classic romance.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
It’s hard to pick one, but I really love Ladyhawke, Jane Austen movies/miniseries that follow the books, and Under the Greenwood Tree.
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn. I love the fall because of the holidays and sports seasons and weather.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
With cake. Always with cake or cupcakes. And with people I love.
17--What’s a recent TV show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
So I’m probably not very recent with anything, but My Demon. I love Korean rom-coms. Some of my favorites are Start Up, Run On, and My Holo Love.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian. My family is Italian, so it’s comfort food for me.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Write! I have a day job, so writing is something I make time for, but I love doing it, so it’s not a chore. I also like to explore parks with my dog, bake, and spend time with my kids. In my head, I’m very artistic, too. Not so much in real life, but I have a lot of art supplies, so one of these days!
20--What can readers expect from you next?
My second book with Delacorte Romance, ALL PATHS LEAD TO PARIS, features a Paris fashion vlogger who is fake-dating her musician best friend, until she meets an ordinary guy and starts to rethink celebrity and her heart, while navigating the pressures of her fractured family and a math disability. It will be available in summer 2025!
When the daughter of a diplomat fake dates a Scottish celebrity in Italy, she soon finds herself living her own Roman Holiday until the feelings get real and the paparazzi's knives come out.
Introverted, slightly anxious Astoria “Story” Herriot knows everything about Rome—her mom’s an attorney here and the two of them are living la dolce vita… at least until Story’s off to college in the fall.
But when Story is in the wrong gelato shop at the right time, she’s swept up in a fake dating scheme with Scottish heartthrob, Luca Kinnaird, to protect his relationship with a pop princess. There’s something in it for her, too—Luca promises to help fund a scholarship in her dad’s memory. Soon she’s showing Luca the best cafés, sightseeing at the Mouth of Truth, and picnicking at the ruins of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano. Story’s travel guide skills are 10/10, but what she knows about being a celebrity—or having feelings for one? Zero.
Pretending to be Luca’s guide—then his girlfriend—gets the paparazzi’s attention . . . and what’s true and what’s fake gets blurry as their different worlds crash together. Sophisticated, hot, rich, and with the most charming accent ever, Luca is full of surprises. And maybe, too, is Story’s perfectly planned future.
It’s a fairy-tale romance in the Eternal City…will it have a fairy tale ending?
