1--What is the title of your latest release?
HER PART TO PLAY
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Desperate for extra income, Adanne accepts a last-minute job as a makeup artist for a movie that's filming in her small Alabama hometown. But the money hardly seems worth having to face the actor who got her fired from her last job in Hollywood. Sparks fly on and off the set, but will either of them follow the pull of their hearts?
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Since I currently live in Iceland, it was probably a little homesickness that inspired me to write a story that would place my characters near my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. Even though I mention Huntsville in the story, the main setting is a fictional town called Hope Springs that I placed as a suburb of Huntsville.
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I definitely would. Adanne is the friend who would be outwardly reserved but welcoming and authentic.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Loyal, Authentic and Creative.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned how incredible publishing professionals are. I’m thankful for the team that helped bring this book to life.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I usually wait until I am done to make major edits.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Is candy considered foodie? I have a ridiculous sweet tooth that I have to control.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
When I’m not writing in the margins of my life, I write in the landing of our second floor. It’s a cozy space with a desk, bookshelf and a chair by a window that overlooks our village and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Tessa Afshar
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers was and is fantastic.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
Each part of the process was so exciting, from learning that a publisher was interested in my book, to it moving to editorial board and then on to the pub board. But of course, my favorite was even before signing the contract, when my agent called me with the news that Revell wanted to extend an offer and then getting to read the beautiful offer letter from my editor. I squealed and fell back dramatically on my couch, with my husband and oldest daughter as witnesses. What an amazing feeling!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Hard question, but even though I write contemporary romance, I actually enjoy reading Historical Fiction set in Biblical times.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Picking a favorite movie is hard, but I really enjoy Pride & Prejudice, the Kiera Knightley version.
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall!
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
A day to myself to read, rest, and shop, ended with a family/friends dinner.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
This is probably a really nerdy answer, but I enjoy listening to the Novel Marketing podcast. I’m always interested in what’s going on in the publishing industry.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Because I don’t get it a lot in Iceland, I like some good, southern barbeque like smoked chicken, turkey, and brisket.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Curl up with a good book, a warm drink, and snacks.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I have some proposals out so hopefully you’ll see another novel from me coming soon!
A Contemporary Romance Debut by a Black Author with a Movie Star and Makeup Artist Interracial Romance
Desperate for extra income after her mother's passing, Adanne accepts a last-minute job as a makeup artist for a movie filming in her small Alabama hometown. She's working to save her parents' legacy and help her brother, but the money hardly seems worth having to face the actor who got her fired from her last job in Hollywood.
John Pope has made his share of mistakes over the years. But after turning his life over to God and enduring a messy breakup, he's ready to start rebuilding his career. Imagine his surprise when the woman called in to cover for his usual makeup artist is a quiet but feisty newcomer on the set--and definitely not a fan.
Sparks of tension--and could that be attraction?--fly between them, but Adanne hates the spotlight, and John's scheming manager has bigger plans for him than to end up with the humble makeup girl from the small-town South. Can these star-crossed lovers find their way to happiness? Or will the bright lights of Hollywood blind their eyes to what's right in front of them?
Debut author Jenny Erlingsson's diverse cast comes alive with faith, romance, and a touch of humor to create a story worthy of the big screen.
