Barbara Russell | Author-Reader Match: THE WRATH OF THE MARQUESS

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match" where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It's our great pleasure to present Barbara Russell!

Writes:

Kia ora! I’m Barbara, and I write historical romance, usually set in Victorian England because I love Victorian fashion and the Victorian Era.

My coming-soon novel, THE WRATH OF THE MARQUESS, is the third book in my Victorian Outcast series, and it’s the story of Cora, a countess trapped in an abusive marriage, and Ethan, the marquess who wishes to protect her. The theme of the story is all about finding the strength to get out of an oppressive situation and the fact that asking for help isn’t a weakness.

Cora has a thirteen-year-old son, David, who will also form a bond with Ethan.

About:

  • I live in the City of Sails (Auckland, New Zealand.)
  • I was actually a soil biologist in my former life, which is a fancy way of saying that I dug in the dirt, looking for insects. But the job bugged me, haha. (I’m joking, I loved it.) I’m still an entomologist, but I don’t deal with soil fauna anymore.
  • I started writing when I was a child, taking inspiration from fairy tales although they terrified me. The original story of Red Riding Hood is a horror, R-rated story! Don’t get me started with Bambi.
  • Dark chocolate is the only type of chocolate allowed in my house, and to end with another random fact, I like reading tarots! My favorite card is The Magician, because he can do anything.

My ideal reader:

  • Loves romance.
  • Has a sense of humor.
  • Doesn’t take life too seriously.
  • Finds history interesting.
  • Sometimes feels the urge to wear a fancy Victorian gown.
  • Loves animals.
  • Loves dancing.

What to expect if we're compatible:

  • Lots of historical references more or less accurate (I have to bend facts sometimes from dramatic purposes.)
  • Protective heroes who ADORE their women.
  • Dogs, cats, and sometimes horses.
  • Stories with only a hint of darkness. (I don’t write or read stories with gory violence or where an animal or a child dies.)
  • Epic love stories with a happily ever after.

That’s all!

Looking forward to meeting you.

THE WRATH OF THE MARQUESS by Barbara Russell

Victorian Outcasts #3

The Wrath of the Marquess

England, 1884

An earthquake brings Cora and Ethan close. Literally.

They find themselves trapped together under an altar in a half-collapsed church. With nothing better to do but wait for the rescue party to free them, they form a bond of friendship and shared secrets.

She endures a loveless marriage with her abusive husband, Lord Roxbury, who mistreats and neglects her and their son, David. Ethan, a soldier and the next Marquess of Hertford, is about to be deployed to a Pacific island to fight against pirates.

Cora and Ethan meet again a few years later after he returns to London to keep open the centre for veterans his father founded. Not an easy task since he needs Lord Roxbury’s support for legal reasons.

When Cora tries to leave her husband to start a new life and protect her son, he shoots her. Desperate to help his mama and scared, David takes Cora to Ethan’s house and begs him to save her.

Ethan hides them in his house and takes care of Cora’s injury. Helping Cora leave England and hiding her from Lord Roxbury proves to be a challenge for Ethan. The future of dozens of soldiers, who suffer from permanent physical and mental problems, depends on his good relationship with Lord Roxbury.

On top of that, he didn’t expect to develop strong feelings for both Cora and David. As they carve their places into his heart, he has to decide which path is the worst. If he helps Cora and David move somewhere Lord Roxbury won’t find them, he won’t see them again. But if Cora gets a divorce, Lord Roxbury will take his revenge on Ethan, destroying everything important to him. Including Cora.

About Barbara Russell

Barbara Russell

Love stories have always captured my imagination. What’s better than two people falling in love with each other? I write steamy romance, usually with a paranormal twist in an historical setting. Add a touch of suspense and mystery and a pinch of darkness. I love stories with strong, sexy heroes and mischievous heroines who pull no punches.
