1--What is the title of your latest release?
CHRISTMAS SECRETS – Book 5 of the Secrets of the Heart Series
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A secret garden is where a runaway serf and a lord running from himself meet and fall in love one Christmas.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
The Secrets of the Heart Series all feature a secret garden with a cottage. Since this is book 5 of the series, it was easy to decide it would take place here.
4--Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Well, since this book is medieval, and my heroine is a runaway serf - if I lived back then I would have been noble - so I’d have to answer no. (Smile)
5--What are three words that describe your hero?
Caring, stubborn, and extremely-handsome. (Ok, I hyphenated that last one to make it one word.)
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Things don’t always turn out the way you think they might, and people are not always what or who you expect them to be.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
A little of both. I edit while I write and then do a major editing when I finish, right before I send it to the editor. Yes, that means it is edited a third time and once more after coming back from the proofreader too.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Hmmm. Well, since I have been trying to stay away from processed foods and a lot of sugar, and because it is Christmastime, I’d have to say dried figs. I start eating them and can’t stop.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
What is a writing space/office? I have written 107 books now and STILL don’t have a place I can call an office. Sigh. I just write wherever. Usually in an easy chair with my laptop or in the summer outside in my hammock.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Julie Johnstone who writes Highland Romance. She is creative and productive and one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
It’s not a romance, but Illusions by Richard Bach.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
I think I answered this before, but it was back in 1999 from a multi-cultural traditional publisher. The book was Eden’s Garden, and my heroine was Peruvian. This was inspired by a trip I took to Peru with my husband about 15 years earlier. Anyway, the book has been republished and is called Bistro Bachelor now.
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
I favor English medieval romance with a bit of paranormal thrown in.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
No question in my mind, it is Lady Hawke which is a mixture of medieval and paranormal
15--What is your favorite season?
It used to be summer. But living in the suburbs of Chicago, this past summer was brutal! Now, it is autumn. I love all the pretty colors in the trees.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
At my age, you stop celebrating and don’t want to make a big deal out of the fact you are another year older. So, I’ll say, staying home, or a quiet dinner with my husband and just relaxing.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Ok, I’m going to change this question to say what are my favorite Christmas movies? First off, The Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russell is such a good movie, and funny. I love it when he (as Santa) is singing with prisoners in jail. I also love the classic Christmas movies, White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life. Those are two that I watch every year. I ALWAYS cry at the end of It’s a Wonderful Life.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Changing this to what is my favorite food at Christmastime. I have to say I love appetizers. Bring on the pickled herring, cheese logs, those little smoky links wrapped in crescent rolls and don’t forget the spinach dip too!
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Um, clean the house? As an author of over 100 books, I don’t have a lot of free time since I am usually writing. But in the summer, I do like to spend time out in nature and in my personal secret garden. Spending time with family is always at the top of my list and the most important.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
My next release will be Riding out the Storm, Book 6 of my Below the Salt Series. It is on preorder now and will release on February 20th.
Secrets of the Heart #5
A Holiday Novella
A cottage in a secret garden is where two strangers discover the true meaning of Christmas.
With dark memories of a past Christmas taunting him, Lord Percival Hamilton wants nothing to do with silly kissing boughs or any manner of festive celebrations at his brother's castle. Deciding to stay away until Twelfth Night passes, he heads to an abandoned cottage in a secret garden in the woods, wanting to escape this burdensome time of year. When he arrives, he discovers he is not alone.
On her deathbed, Holly Wakefielde's mother gives her a heart-shaped brooch and tells her to flee the evil Lord Neville. Holly and her young brother travel to their grandmother's cottage in the woods, hoping to find refuge. However, they are serfs, bound to their lord and his land and are not allowed to leave. If caught, they will be punished or perhaps even killed.
A woman on the run and a man trying to escape his past are housed together at Christmastime. Now, the biggest danger is falling for each other while hoping to keep their secrets.
