Happy Holidays!
Musings, greetings, and notes for the season.

Don't forget the Greek Sugar Cookies!

facebook

When I was a kid, Christmas wasn't Christmas without my mother's traditional
Greek Sugar Cookies, also known as Kourabiethes. Now that I have my own
household to run, I try to keep the tradition alive. Here's my favorite holiday
recipe. I hope it makes the season extra sweet for you. Happy Holidays!

Anne Hope Greek Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter (or Β½ cup butter and Β½ cup shortening)

Β½ cup icing sugar

1 egg yolk

1 tablespoon cognac, vanilla or powdered almonds (I put one tablespoon of each)

3 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

Extra icing sugar and rose water to sprinkle on top at the end

In a mixer, combine butter/shortening, Β½ cup icing sugar, egg yolk, cognac,
vanilla and almonds. Blend well.

In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder.

Slowly add flour to the mixer until the batter is no longer sticky (but not hard
or crumbly). Knead by hand, adding flour or melted butter, as needed. Form into
cookies. Bake at 350 F for approximately 18-20 minutes. Sprinkle with rose water
and icing sugar.
