Pitch us your newest book in one sentence.

Two people in a small coastal town meet through a Dear Santa letter and begin a pen pal relationship before they realize they are business rivals. In short, it’s You’ve Got Mail meets Santa Claus Is Coming to Town in a beach town. DEAR SANTA releases on October 16 in trade paperback, digital, and audio.

If you could meet one of your characters in real life, who would you choose and what would you do?

That’s easy: Cody Tuggle from OUT OF FOCUS and the follow-up novel PECAN PIE AND DEADLY LIES. He is kind, talented, generous, and good-looking to boot. I’d invite him to a cookout at my house with my closest friends, and ask him to play acoustic guitar as we all sing along for a relaxing evening under the stars. Oh wait! Maybe we’d go to his house in Nashville so I could take the zipline from his rooftop to the pool. ;)

What gets your creative juices flowing when you’re brainstorming a new story?

I don’t have a very cool process. I sit in my favorite leather recliner in the den in front of a row of seven tall windows that overlook the patio, pool, and a good portion of the property. It’s a great view with a variety of trees and pasture. I just kind of stare and let my mind wander. Ideas are usually easy to come up with, so once I get a few, I stop myself, then I go take a nap and see which one feels right when I wake up. Then I get to work!

Which part of Readers & ‘ritas are you most excited about?

I’m so looking forward to Readers & ‘ritas. I was scheduled to be there in 2013, but a family emergency kept me away. It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since then. I am most excited about meeting readers and making new friends. There’s something pretty awesome about being able to walk into a room full of people knowing that I already have something in common with every single person there–a love for books.

We’re all romantics here, so we need to know—what is your all-time favorite love story?

ANYONE BUT YOU by Jennie Crusie. It’s a super-quick read, but there’s something about the combination of the older heroine, younger hero, and a rough-around-the-edges dog that I’ve never been able to forget. This book is a keeper. Plus, the hardcover edition is so adorable with that basset hound on the front. (I’m a dog lover!)
