The Best Christmas

One of the best Christmas I remember was when I was in the 5th grade, my Dad was out of work at that time and we didn't really know that things were rough as far as our finances. We weren't allowed in the basement because my Dad had alot of tools, and other stuff down there he didn't want us to mess with. I knew he spent alot of time down there, and my Mom would go down every so often we thought to talk to Dad.

Christmas Day, we found out why he had been spending all that time there...he'd made all of us Christmas gifts, wooden cars and trucks for my brothers, and doll furniture and houses for us girls. My Mom made little curtains, rugs, pillows and other things for those houses from old worn shirts, and other items, and crocheted the other things.

It was the best gifts we ever had and better than any bought in a store. We still talk about that time and how excited we were. We may have been poor, but we were loved, and never will forget that special Christmas.

Re: The Best Christmas

What a great holiday memory! I love getting handmade gifts
from my mother, who is an incredible seamstress.
