Alexandra Benedict | The Reunion Romance

For me, the main appeal of a reunion romance is the prospect of getting a
second chance at love. Have you ever wondered "if only ...?" or "I wish I had
known then what I know now"? Time and experience seasons us, and the reunion
romance offers characters the opportunity to right past wrongs.

As an author, writing a reunion romance can be fun (I get to start off with the
passion and emotion), but it can also be challenging as the lead characters
already know each other; thereโ€™s no "getting to know you" period, for the hero
and heroine already share a history. I, then, have to inform the reader about
the charactersโ€™ pasts, weave their time together "off stage" into the central
story. In the end, the effort is worthwhile.

The first book in The Hawkins Brothers series THE INFAMOUS ROGUE (Avon Books, August 2009) is a reunion romance between pirate Captain James Hawkins and sassy Sophia Dawson. Seven years ago, the lovers parted ways, but soon the couple learn old passions still burn ... and there might be hope for their stormy love affair, after all.

Do you enjoy reunion romances? Or do you prefer tales where the hero and
heroine have clean slates?

I love the reunion romances, it's great too see the people back together. Your book sounds great!

Reunion romances sound like a good idea. To reacquaint main characters who've been through a lot with and without each other is a nice wish equivalent to a dream state. Sign me up, because wouldn't it be amazing to have a wish come true to life.

It depends on the circumstance; I've loved both kinds of stories under the right circumstances!

I enjoy reunion romances - two of my high school classmates met at one of our reunions. Both of their mates had died and they ended up marrying each other.

I think that it's really cool to see your old flames and maybe pick up where you left off (if you're both free that is). Sometimes it better the second time around.

I love reunion romances - not only do you get a chance for a do over but there is history that can be built upon.

I love reunion romances. I bet there are a lot of folks out there who if able to, would love a chance to reunite with that one great love. A reunion romance gives the next best thing, a chance to read a great story and put ourselves in the heroine's shoes!

The reunion is a good plot line. The
ability to revisit the past and try to
correct mistakes or do what should have
been done gives a story so many
possibilities.

I like both!

Greetings Readers! Thanks for posting your thoughts and personal stories. It's been fun for me, penning a reunion romance. I enjoyed it so much, I went back and created a novella that features the couple's first love affair! Readers can now delve deep into the h/h's past. If you'd like to learn more about the book/novella and my new series, visit: www.TheHawkinsBrothers.ca. Cheers!
