What is the title of your latest release?
THE FIX
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Eleven years after surviving a traumatic home-invasion where she loses her mother and sister, a young woman once again finds herself the target of a disturbing and confusing scenario that is almost certainly connected to the original crime.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I decided on Virginia because of its close proximity to DC. There is some content that relates to the political scene and specifically, a family of “fixers,” who help those who have found themselves in political hot water, and so that location was necessary.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely. Cami is brave and wise, her depth honest and hard-earned. I would love nothing more than to sit over a cup of coffee and have conversations about life and love and finding peace after pain.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Loyal, strong, introspective.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
This book actually took quite a bit of technical research as my hero is a computer specialist who works for the NSA and helps the heroine locate a person based on little information. It was a fun challenge, especially for someone who isn’t very technically savvy to begin with!
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I’ve done it both ways but prefer to edit while I’m writing. I didn’t have time for that with this one, however, and so I edited after I was completely done. That always requires more heavy lifting of the editing variety, but it’s also kind of fun to go back and re-experience the story after almost forgetting where I started!
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Cheesecake or any form of potato. I never met a potato I didn’t love.
Describe your writing space/office!
When a relative came to stay with us a couple of years ago, I gave up my office and moved a small writing desk into my bedroom near the window. I intended it to be temporary, but I ended up loving this space, so I haven’t moved back into what was my office. My dog is happy with the situation too as she sleeps right on the bed as I write.
Who is an author you admire?
Nora Roberts. She’s so prolific and she handles every genre effortlessly! A true master.
Is there a book that changed your life?
The Thorn Birds. It broke my heart into a million pieces when I was about 12 (probably far too young to read it). I still tear up when I think of that book. That forbidden love is so incredibly painful.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I didn’t make much of my decision to self-publish because I truly believed only my husband and a few friends might read my book. The most momentous moment came when I looked at Amazon a few weeks later and a 1-star review said some form of, “I can’t believe such a terrible book made USA Today.” That was . . . wow. Equal parts shocking/exciting/humbling.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love almost all genres, but my top favorite will always be romance. It’s what I turn to when my heart needs healing.
What’s your favorite movie?
The Shawshank Redemption. I remember reading the short story when I was in my 20s and begging everyone, I knew to read it because it was such an undiscovered gem (and one of King’s lesser-known works). When I later saw a movie of it was coming out, I was so excited. And of course, the fact that it was flawlessly done was wonderful. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve watched it.
What is your favorite season?
Fall. I love the coziness of the season, but I also love that preparation for winter and slowing . . . hunkering down. What a privilege to live when we do and to approach the long, cold season not with anxiety, but with appreciation.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Quietly, simply and with the people I love. A lazy day, a nice dinner out, then home to a good book.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I don’t watch a whole lot of tv (although I admit my kids got me hooked on The Summer I Turned Pretty). But I’ve been trying to read more non-fiction titles in an effort to branch out, and recently read, “The 5 Types of Wealth,” by Sahil Bloom which I recommend to everyone. It’s about defining your purpose and is just so clarifying and inspirational. I know I’ll be referring back to it often.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
That’s too hard—it depends on the day! There’s not a lot I don’t like and I’ll pretty much try anything. But if I had to choose just one? Probably Mexican. Or maybe Thai. Ugh, Indian is amazing too. And I do love Italian.
What do you do when you have free time?
I love interior design and am always bugging my husband about doing home projects. We’ve actually done quite a bit of DIY and have gotten very good at tiling and small building projects. It’s fun and creative and I’m a homebody and so “nesting” is very important to me.
What can readers expect from you next?
A couple of thrillers that were self-published back in 2019 will be hitting store shelves in June and I’m really excited for new readers to discover them! After that, I have something new and different than I’ve done before coming, but I can’t talk about that one just yet.

From New York Times bestselling author Mia Sheridan comes a chilling take on second chances, where a brutal break-in comes back to haunt the sole survivor with a new threat—and another victim.
Eleven years ago, Cami Cortlandt’s mother and sister died cruelly in a violent home invasion. The trauma and notoriety still linger, but Cami has managed to build a life in her hometown despite everything she’s lost.
Then one day it all comes rushing back.
A distorted voice on the phone: Would you like a do-over? A disturbing video of a room with bars on the window, trapping a young boy inside who looks achingly, impossibly familiar. Four days to find him.
With the help of Rex Lowe, an old classmate whose past is inextricably tied to her own, Cami races to uncover everything she can about the boy—where he is, who he is, and why she’s the only one who can save him.
But as Cami and Rex unravel one clue after another, the past and present converge in an explosion of secrets they never saw coming…and a truth they never could have imagined.
