Angela Hunt | Delving into the life of Sarah

What is the title of your latest release?
RESCUED HEART: THE STORY OF SARAH

What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
The Bible only gives us snippets of Sarah’s life—her kidnapping by Pharaoh, her infertility, her sending Hagar to Abraham, and her kidnapping by Abimelech, and the birth of Isaac. But she lived 127 years! What happened in between those biblical episodes?

How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Easy—the Bible told me where the story took place.

Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely. I think we have a lot in common.

What are three words that describe your hero?
Dutiful, respectful, cautious.

What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned many stories that “fall between” paragraphs in the Bible.

Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Heavens! My first draft isn’t fit for anyone, so I do five or six drafts total—and that’s before my editor makes suggestions.

What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Carrot Cake.

Describe your writing space/office!
I have a large office, but I tend to do most of my writing at the desk in my bedroom. It sits in a huge garden window, so I can write, be with my dogs, and watch chickens at the same time.

Who is an author you admire?
Carrie Stuart Park. Her sense of humor is delightful.

Is there a book that changed your life?
Aside from the Bible, I presume . . . Gone with the Wind taught me how to flirt. (Not that I do much of that these days . . .)

Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I had entered a picture book manuscript in a contest, and the first place prize was publication. I had never even attempted to write a picture book before, but I read a book on how to do it, studied the blueprint, and wrote a script in about twenty minutes. After a couple of months, the editor called and said “If I Had Long, Long Hair” had won!

What’s your favorite genre to read?
I like almost all of them.

What’s your favorite movie?
Galaxy Quest.

What is your favorite season?
Depends on where I am. If up north, I love the Spring. In Florida, I love the winter.

How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
with Carrot Cake! And with family.

What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I love Cheere Denise’s YouTube channel. Her take on books and life always makes me smile.

What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
American.

What do you do when you have free time?
Free time? What’s that?

What can readers expect from you next?
RESCUED HEART is the first of a series of three. Next is RIGHTEOUS HEART: The Story of Rebekah, and I’m currently writing RESOLUTE HEART: The Story of Leah. After that, only the Lord knows . . .

RESCUED HEART by Angela Hunt

The Matriarchs #1

Historical Biblical Fiction Set in Abraham and Sarah’s Old Testament Era for Fans of The Chosen

In Ur of the Chaldeans, Ishcah faces the daunting prospect of marrying Abram, a man she has never met and who renames her Sarai on their wedding day. Their union, arranged since childhood, tests her as she grapples with uncertainty about her future and Abram's character, including his devotion to an unseen God—entirely unlike the idols she has worshiped all her life.

When Abram reveals that Adonai has directed him to leave the family, Sarai chooses to trust him and follow his God, even though she is not sure Adonai can make them a great nation. As the years pass without conceiving a child, Sarai wrestles with doubt and faith within her marriage. Her skepticism that their descendants will "outnumber the stars" grows with time. It will take nothing short of a miracle to prove Adonai's faithfulness to His promise.

A master of biblical research, Angela Hunt delivers a series starter that transports readers to the Old Testament world of Sarah and Abraham, making this novel a perfect read for those who love Francine Rivers, Mesu Andrews, Connilyn Cossette, and Jill Eileen Smith.

About Angela Hunt

Angela Hunt

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With over three million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 100 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to nonfiction books, to novels. Now that her two children have reached their twenties, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Turner and Hooch and Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out pawtographs at the airport. Angela admits to being fascinated by animals, medicine, psychology, unexplained phenomena, and “just about everything” except sports. Books, she says, have always shaped her life— in the fifth grade she learned how to flirt from reading Gone with the Wind. Her books have won the coveted Christy Award, several Angel Awards from Excellence in Media, and the Gold and Silver Medallions from Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year Award. In 2007, her novel The Note was featured as a Christmas movie on the Hallmark channel. Romantic Times Book Club presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Also in 2006, Angela completed her Master of Biblical Studies in Theology degree. She completed her doctorate in 2008. When she’s not home reading or writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers’ conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.
