1--What is the title of your latest release?
BEAUTIFUL BROKEN LOVE
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A grieving widow who isn’t looking for love meets a charming NBA player who will do anything to have her.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I’m from Charlotte, and it is a growing city. I know the area pretty well, so I figured why not?
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely. In this case, I have two protagonists, and they are both cool people I could hang with.
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Davina: Smart. Kind. Strong.
Deke: Charming. Goofy. Passionate.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned there are different ways in which people heal from a loss. What one person does to get by may not look the same as what another person does. Seeing that happen with two different characters was beautiful.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I used to edit as I drafted and it 100% slowed me down. Now, I just bang it all out until it reaches the messy glory of a first draft and then go back and revise, rewrite, and repeat.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I love fudgy brownies and ice cream. I will NEVER pass up the chance to eat it if it's on the menu.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
My office is very cozy. It’s a decent size, full of books (mine and others). When I’m writing, it is a complete mess. When I’m taking a break, it’s still kind of a mess, but not as much. Haha.
10--Who is an author you admire?
Oh, there are so many. I adore Kennedy Ryan. She is a powerhouse and has such a beautiful soul. I am good friends with Danielle Allen. She is an incredible woman. Dylan Allen is another who is so sweet and supportive and a talented author.
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
My debut contemporary romance changed my life. It wasn’t my best written work, but it landed on the New York Times and gave me my first big royalty check. With that check, I was able to buy a car, get my first apartment, and upgrade my laptop for a better writing experience.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
So the interesting story behind BEAUTIFUL BROKEN LOVE is that I was chatting with Colleen Hoover, who was telling me all about her amazing experience with Montlake. And I remember randomly saying “My goal is to publish with Montlake one day.” And Colleen took it upon herself to connect me with her editor, Anh, who is now my editor at Montlake. It all happened so fast, but I was so grateful for the opportunity and so excited that my book was worth their time!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Thrillers all the way. Especially psychological and domestic thrillers. Probably because I’m slightly insane.
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Law Abiding Citizen. That movie disturbed me but had my heart racing the entire time. The way it was executed was flawless. And the twist! So good.
15--What is your favorite season?
Autumn. For sure. I need my sweaters, cardigans, and hoodies.
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I do different things every year. Sometimes it’s as simple as going out to dinner. Other times, we’re heading to Vegas for a little fun. Definitely depends.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I highly recommend the show No One Wants This. That show had great character building and chemistry. I absolutely loved it and I’m not even a rom-com viewer.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I’m torn between Italian and Mexican food.
19--What do you do when you have free time?
Read. Sleep. Snack. Play cards or board games with my family.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
They can expect A LOT. A thriller, a romantasy, and possibly another contemporary romance.
From New York Times bestselling author Shanora Williams comes an emotional page-turner about two people still reeling from tragedy who look to each other for the strength to move forward.
It’s been months since her dreams of forever were brutally shattered. Seven long months since her husband and soulmate, Lew, died in her arms, leaving her to carry on. Alone. And Davina Klein-Roberts still isn’t sure how to move forward.
To escape her anguish, Davina throws everything into work, pushing Golden Oil Co., her self-built skin care line, to become a viral success. Now she’s poised to clinch a major endorsement deal too. But it’s bittersweet without Lew by her side.
A meeting with Deke Bishop, the hot NBA star she’s courting for her brand, leaves Davina flustered. With his dimpled smile and warm handshake, Deke’s a natural pitchman. And he’s clearly interested—not only in her lotions.
Davina soon discovers that Deke’s more than just another player and carries his own pain. But as her feelings for him grow, so does her guilt. Will the pain of a future already lost keep her from embracing hope for a new one?
