1--What is the title of your latest release?

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
An FBI agent, his K-9, and a woman who is not all she appears to be, team up to track down a cult targeting youths.
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
The entire K-9 Special Ops series takes place in Colorado, where I lived and worked for five years. Many of the places and houses in the books of this series are places I’ve been to or actually lived in!
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely! Who wouldn’t want to hang out with Evan, a seriously hot, hunky, alpha-male with a soft side for dogs and children. And Marlie is one of the most likeable, gentle, big-hearted heroines I’ve ever met!
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Well, in addition to “hot” and “hunky” I’d definitely say, courageous, protective, and loyal to a fault.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
There’s a fun little component mingled in between the suspense pages of this story that I didn’t plan on: butterflies, specifically, monarch butterflies. I can’t recall the genesis of this winding up in two scenes involving Blue, FBI Special Agent Evan McGarry’s K-9 partner, but once I got rolling on this, I needed to make sure I had accurate factoids about monarchs. These beautiful creatures are dwindling, by the way, so if you feel like planting milkweed, which the caterpillars need to feed on to survive, please do!
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I can’t help but edit as I draft. I suppose I’m my own worst micro manager. That said, I’ve learned how to force myself to leave as much editing as possible until I have a complete draft which, in the end, is a big time-saver.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Easy – pizza! With sausage and onion, although I love a good eggplant and ricotta pie.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
Red walls, my parents’ old desk (makes me feel they’re there with me!), photos of dogs on the wall behind me, to my left, and on the bay windowsill. Some very colorful horse prints adorn other places in the room. Cookbooks, writing reference books, and legal books take up most of my remaining shelf space.
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are so many, it’s hard to choose only one. In the modern era, I love Julie Ann Walker. She writes in a very exciting way. I think it’s her choice of words. From a previous era and different genre, I just read The Deceiver, by Frederick Forsythe. What a clever book about Cold War espionage!
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
I don’t know if I’d say this book changed my life, but it made me think deeply about how to give all my books the most poignant moments that I can. I think Judith McNaught’s, Paradise, has such a moment.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was living in Colorado when I got “the call.” I was super-excited and even more excited to hear that my new publisher was offering not only a contract, but a 3-book deal! The icing on the cake was that my literary agent at the time told me the editor I’d be working with said she “devoured” my first book in one sitting!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romantic suspense
14--What’s your favorite movie?
That’s a tough one, because my favorites have changed over the years. Air Force One, The Fugitive, Crazy Rich Asians, Gone With the Wind, Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments. I’m sure there are others. This list is really just the start.
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall. I have a big garden, which I love, but it’s a lot of work to maintain. While I do love spring, when everything starts to grow and blossom, I also love that in the fall the weather is still wonderful, there are lots of fall festivals, and I know I have a respite coming during winter when there’s no gardening to be done!
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
With a good bottle of wine and a pizza! Preferably with my significant other and close friends.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Queen’s Gambit. This is one of the few books that I’d say was very good, but the series was, possibly, even better.
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian, because again…pizza!
19--What do you do when you have free time?
I love to cook and do fun things with my Belgian sheepdogs, Loki and Kyrie. I also love being on a boat on the river.
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I’m starting a new series about four brothers who work for different organized crime units in the FBI. The first book is written, although I don’t have a release date. This book is a great combination of suspense AND fun, in the form of great snarky banter, which I know you all love to read!
