1--What is the title of your latest release?
IN EVERY LIFE
2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
What happens when a newlywed couple is faced with an unexpected diagnosis… and a possible second chance to do it all over again?
3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I love setting my books in both familiar and unfamiliar locations. I set this book in Chattanooga and Brooklyn, two cities I love!
4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I would totally hang out with Harper. I love that she adores teaching, but she really wants to become an artist. I think I could positively influence her to go after her dreams!
5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Loyal. Passionate. Torn.
6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I have done a lot of research on quantum healing and have learned that sick people can have spontaneous remissions. It’s not “woo-woo.” It’s science. There’s actual data to prove that miracles can happen if we are open to it.
7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
Typically, I re-read the chapter I left off on before I start writing. It creates a bit of momentum and allows me to remember where I’m going next.
8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
A sloppy, stacked burger, fries, and a huge salad.
9--Describe your writing space/office!
I actually have a Scandinavian style tiny home (or she-shed) at the back of my acre lot that is my quiet space to write!
10--Who is an author you admire?
There are too many to name! I really admire Kristin Hannah’s career. How she started in one genre and morphed into another. Now, anything she writes turns to gold!
11--Is there a book that changed your life?
Also so many! Over the years, there have been so many novels that have inspired me to write (Alice Walker’s The Color Purple; James Joyce’s The Dubliners; George Eliot’s Middlemarch; Don DeLillo’s White Noise; anything by Pablo Neruda) and the same for nonfiction. Anything by Wayne Dyer, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Pam Grout, Abraham Hicks, Michael Beckwith, etc. I love that books find me just when I need them.
12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I don’t think there’s anything more exciting than knowing your book is going to be published! A little backstory: Though I had a novel come out when I was 22, it was a very disappointing experience, so I then turned to nonfiction and had four books traditionally published. However, it wasn’t until my “true” debut came out in 2018 that I felt like a “real” writer. At the end of 2016, I remember that I was on the playground with my daughter and some of my mom friends, and my agent called me to tell me that my book had gone to auction. I had several interested parties and we narrowed it down to two publishers and two editors. I remember the moment I chose to go with St. Martin’s Press and how excited I was. In fact, I was so excited, I had my husband video a message to my future self to always remember that moment. It was so special!
13--What’s your favorite genre to read?
I have two! Psychological thrillers and book club fiction
14--What’s your favorite movie?
Eek! This is like asking me what my favorite book is! I’ve had different favorites for different seasons and reasons. However, I do love watching It’s a Wonderful Life every year. It reminds me of how lucky we all are to be here.
15--What is your favorite season?
Fall!
16--How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Well, my wedding anniversary is a day before my birthday, so we usually celebrate both! I am actually not a huge birthday person, so I really love to travel to a new place, indulge in some sort of spa day, or go out with a few friends.
17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Human Design by Jenna Zoe dives deep into the human design modality. This, above all else, has helped me in my relationships, career, etc. It is a true roadmap to who you are and how to use your assets to your advantage. I’m actually hosting a book club about this book!
18--What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Mexican! (My hubby is Spanish and Mexican and cooks 99.9% of all our meals!)
19--What do you do when you have free time?
I hike, paddle board, swim, take my pup on a walk, meditate, or watch movies snuggled up with my family!
20--What can readers expect from you next?
I currently write in two genres with two different publishers, so my next book, When She’s Gone, is a thriller and will be released in early 2025!
What happens when a husband's dying wish is for his wife to find a new love . . . before he's even gone?
Ben and Harper have had a rough start to their marriage. After a surprise late-stage cancer diagnosis, Ben comes up with one final wish for his wife: he wants Harper to find a new partner before he dies. Harper is resistant to this wacky plan. If she can't have Ben, then she doesn't want anyone. Finally, he lets it drop, but not before the New York Times sends a journalist to do a feature story about Ben's life . . . and his idea. When Harper opens the door, she is stunned to find the one man who got away. Or, the man she spent one perfect week with a decade ago and never saw again: Liam Hale.
Suddenly, Harper is faced with her ultimate what-if:
What if Harper had ended up with Liam instead of Ben?
What if she'd pursued life as an artist instead of teaching?
What if it had all turned out differently?
After making a wish, Harper wakes up to find herself in a parallel universe . . . where her what-ifs become a reality.
Is the grass really greener, or is she standing right where she should be, even as she inevitably faces the pain of losing the one she loves?
