The Hunger Games trilogy to continue
Many fans are excited for the anticipated release of the movie version of The Hunger Games on March
23, 2012. They received news today that will make them even more excited. The
sequel, Catching Fire has
been announced with a release date of November 22, 2013. The 20 month lapse
between sequels is oddity in the modern film industry when it comes to movies
based on Young-Adult book series. Joe Drake, the Chief Operating Officer of Lionsgate stated that the release date is
set for Thanksgiving weekend to give families a good opportunity to enjoy the
film over the holiday weekend. The question is if the fans will wait almost 2
years to see the story continue on the silver screen?
Can Amazon make nice with bricks-and-mortar booksellers?
Amazon and Barnes & Noble are trying to work up a deal so The
leading bricks-and-mortar bookseller is offering to sell books published by
Amazon within the stores if Amazon agrees to offer the e-book in all formats.
Amazon has been pushing publishers for exclusive e-book contracts making it
impossible for B&N to offer the books in a format that is compatible on their e-
reader, the Nook. With the announcement of Amazon’s new venture into publishing,
it is still unclear who will be selling the publications outside of the Amazon
website. The position of Independent bookstores is still up in the air. Some
state that they will carry the publications if Amazon agrees to the terms the
bookstores are use to with the larger companies and others state they will not
carry the books unless requested by customers. “We’re not doing that,” said
Harvey Finkel at Clinton Bookshop in
Clinton, N.J. “I’d love to stock their books and give them more money to put me
out of business.”
