Spring Break...Catch the Fever

The Importance of Making Memories

The people of St Petersburg, Fla. are amazing folks! Should you ever have the chance, I highly recommend a stay in this lovely seaside town.A few years back I had the good fortune to take a "girls week" to sunny Florida(my first time on that part of the coast) Now I dont know how much better it can get then to have a full week of nothing but exploring, sailing, bobbing in the warm gulf waters, learning how tasty Grouper can be baked, fried, sauted and grilled! Maybe its the dolphins swimming by, or lounging in hooded beach chairs, alternating between reading a juicy novel and napping. Sunsets that are picture worthy, singing Margaritaville with the musician at a restaurant in St Johns Bay, or kicking back on the deck each morning with a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise over the changing faces of the ocean. Terrific memories! That trip was food for the soul--one of those times you tuck away to cherish many times over. Probably fodder for a scene or two in a book one day!

There's a song that talks about everyone needs a little time away--and though not every spring break has been as memorable, that week made me realize how important thoses times with friends and family really are.

My twins, when they were younger and having recently returned from a few days at Disney world, would lay in bed after lights out and we could hear them chattering away. One night, after several warnings fo "go to sleep" ensued, I asked them, "You guys are together all day long. What do you possibly have to talk about?" One of them popped up and said,"Making memories, mom." Which was to say they were recapping the trip to Disney and what they remembered. It's now become a family saying, albeit goal, this--"making memories."

Though I may never be remembered as well as some for the books that I write,I hope that now and again, a character or scene will touch someone deeply enough to make a lasting impression on them. But even more important, I hope my friends and family will remember fondly all those times when we were 'making memories." Have a wonderful spring and go out there and make some memories!
