amazonwebsite

1--What is the title of your latest release?

THE DIE

2--What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Scaffolded on three realities—the ancient wisdom of the Mahabharata, our current sociopolitical reality, and the near future—The Die is a fast-paced story about friendship, courage, and democracy.

3--How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It’s set in Silicon Valley because that’s a place that already has one foot in the future.

4--Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Of course.

5--What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Courageous, compassionate, caring

6--What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned it is possible to write about things before they happen.

7--Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I write, then edit more later. Writing is just a process of editing and re-editing.

8--What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Chocolate

9--Describe your most interesting writing space/office!

I often write in bed, as I fall asleep. I’ve also been known to write while dreaming.

David Levithan

11--Is there a book that changed your life?

Memories, Dreams and Reflections, by Carl Jung

12--Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

When I got a yes from hybrid publisher SparkPress/SheWritesPress, I knew I’d found a home and a community.

13--What’s your favorite genre to read?

Metaphysical/visionary fiction

14--What’s your favorite movie?

I don’t have a single favorite movie, but a recent favorite is Petite Maman, because it has so much more depth than most movies.

15--What do you hope readers will take away from your work?

I want them to reflect on their own lives and on how they can become actively engaged in the world to make it a better place for all.

16--What particular themes or messages do you like to explore in your writing?

I often come back to the theme “things are not always what they appear to be.”

17--What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I recently read, admired, and recommend Afterword, by Nina Schuyler. Not only is it beautifully written and expertly crafted, but I was bowled over by the presentience of the story and by how timely it is.

Vegetarian

19--What do you do when you have free time?

Paint, garden, meditate

20--What can readers expect from you next?

THE DIE by Jude Berman

The Die

Darah, a tech writer living in the democratic nation of California, is dismayed to see the game she’s helping develop for a Silicon Valley tech company has been tampered with. When her hacker friend Jedd investigates, he uncovers a conspiracy that could change the nation—and the world.

With a circle of close friends, Jedd digs deeper and deeper into the darknet and exposes the unthinkable: an app is being developed that uses quantum computing and neuroscience to alter people’s brains, totally unbeknownst to them. As the friends realize the devastating impact of this technology, they’re presented with a dilemma: stay quiet and stay safe, or risk their lives to stand up to the international authoritarian force behind this plot?

Combining activist, techno-thriller, and metaphysical fiction elements and scaffolded on three realities—the ancient wisdom of the Mahabharata, our current sociopolitical reality, and the near future—The Die is a fast-paced story about friendship, courage, and democracy.
