With the quick approach of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to celebrate this holiday
by sharing my all-time favorite scenes in Romance. After years of reading
Romance, I had so many good scenes to choose from but I will admit that it
wasn’t hard to pick out my top two favorites. These are scenes that constantly
stand out in my mind. I remember reading them for the first time and feeling my
heart squeeze with emotion as the scene panned out.
My first and possibly my most favorite scene of all time is from LOVER ETERNAL by J.R. Ward. It’s the scene
where Rhage appears at Mary’s house. At this time, it’s still the beginning of
their relationship and despite the uncertainty that Mary has about Rhage, she
rushes out of the house, straight into his arms as she sobs that “she’s not
okay”. It’s an emotional moment that made me sob right along with her because
it’s that moment where she finally opens up to him. And from there, it’s only
the beginning of their happily ever after.
Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetite.
He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most
voracious lover-for inside him burns a ferocious curse cast by the Scribe
Virgin.
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s
a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a
secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their
race. Possessed by a deadly beast, Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black
Dagger Brotherhood...
Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with
the strongest appetites. He’s the best fighter, the quickest to act on his
impulses, and the most voracious lover--for inside him burns a ferocious curse
cast by the Scribe Virgin. Possessed by this dark side, Rhage fears the times
when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around
him.
Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships, is unwittingly thrown into
the vampire world and reliant on Rhage’s protection. With a life-threatening
curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. Her faith in miracles was lost
years ago. But when Rhage’s intense animal attraction turns into something more
emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies
close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...
This next one is a little different because the series I’m going to be
talking about isn’t really a Romance series at all. It’s Urban Fantasy but
there’s definitely something going on between our main heroine, Mac and the
mysterious Jericho Barrons. Barrons is a highly secretive man and throughout the
entire series he sweeps in and seems to throw Mac’s world into a spinning
tornado. But there is a scene in SHADOWFEVER which throws
Barrons into my top favorite hero of all time because he says these words,
"You're Mac. And I'm Jericho. And nothing else matters. Never will. You exist in
a place that is beyond all rules for me. Do you understand that?" Mac certainly
does, knowing he means to tell her that he loves her. This coming from a man who
rarely shows what he is feeling had me swooning until I fell faint.
"Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes
it's good."
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister,
Alina were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.
Twenty
years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled
them to hunt her sister's murderer. But after discovering that she descends from
a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an
ancient conflict between humans and immortals that have lived concealed among us
for thousands of years.
What follows is a shocking chain of events with
devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief, while
continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh--a book of dark,
forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King that contains the power to
create and destroy worlds.
In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the
hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac, and begins mowing a
deadly path through those she loves.
Who can she turn to? Who can she
trust? Who is the woman that haunts her dreams? More importantly, who is Mac and
what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient
tarot card?
From the luxury of the Lord Master's penthouse, to the sordid
depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover, to the
terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac's journey will force her to face the
truth of her exile, and make a choice that will either save the world...or
destroy it.
