As product of fiction, vampires have an array of powers, talents, and abilities
which are both fascinating and thought-provoking. I compiled several powers and
will explain each one as they relate to my series, The Gates
Legacy.
- Enhanced Senses
As predators, vampires are equipped with enhanced senses of hearing, smell, and
sight. They can see as well in total darkness as humans can see in broad
daylight. Harrow Gates, the leader of Tack Enterprises, suffers from a disease
that causes central blindness, and upon switching his diet, he began
experiencing acute changes in his hearing. Even with his eyes closed, he is able
to use the pulses from the small sounds his opponent makes to get a mental image
of their movements and location.
- Superior Strength
A vampire possesses a strength no mere mortal can match up with. My characters
have the strength of five to ten people. Compared to humans, this makes them
hard to deal with in one-on-one combat.
- Superhuman Speed
Vampires can pass through a small period of time, enabling them to move faster
than what the human eye can perceive. The Gates
Legacy Vampires possess this quality. They move with speed, appearing like a
blur or a wisp of air. Only vampires can track each others' movement.
- Hypnotism
This is probably one of the most useful weapons a vampire can have. In the
series, this is called thought-insertion, and there are only a handful of
vampires who have this ability. To name a few, Rohnert, Goran and Bretania
possess this gift. They can also force humans to forget about an incident or
manipulate the thought process.
- Mind Reading
The ability to discern the thoughts of others is another powerful talent. The
only ones who have this power in the series are the pure-blooded vampires; a
trait passed on by the union of same species. Anomalies are possible, depending
on the strength of the bloodline.
- Healing
Even if a vampire is wounded, their rate of healing is very fast. This happens
if they are wounded by human weapons. In the vampire world I created, there is a
type of metal called Dangeran that can kill or disable a vampire. It has the
strength and weight of titanium and infused with diamond bits. The weapons are
constructed with Dangeran to ensure the most damage possible. Vampires cut or
shot by a weapon or bullet made with Dangeran will disintegrate unless the
wounded area is cut from their bodies. Any part of the body that is severed to
keep the vampire alive will not regenerate. It is lost forever.
- Wall Climbing
Vampires can climb walls without the aid of any equipment. They can scale up or
down the steepest walls with ease, enabling them to seek refuge, and in the
series, this allows my characters to perform surveillance duties on humans and
vampires alike to avoid detection.
Lorenz Font discovered her love of writing after reading a celebrated novel that
inspired one idea after another. She is currently enjoying the buzz from her
debut novel Hunted, the first book of The Gates Legacy Trilogy and Indivisible
Line, a romantic thriller. Her newest novel, Tormented, the second installment
of The Gates Legacy, is now available for vampire lovers everywhere.
Writing is a therapy for Lorenz, and a perfect day consists of writing and
playing with her characters while listening to her ever–growing music
collection. She enjoys dabbling in different genres with an intense focus on
angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic
twists is a mainstay in all her stories.
Lorenz currently lives in California with her husband, children, and two
demanding dogs. She divides her time between a full–time job as a Business
Office Manager for a hospital and her busy writing schedule.
The vampires of New York City are breathing easier after the demise of the
tyrannical former head of the Vampire Council, Goran. Under Rohnert, the revered
and newly ascended leader, their future looks promising. However, an unknown
enemy is manipulating events, killing humans and vampires alike, and exposing
their secrets to the human world.
This is bad news for new vampire Cyrus and his band of fighters at Tack
Enterprises. Events derail his plans to find Zane, the sadistic vampire who
tortured Cyrus and forced immortality on him. Armed with hatred deep in his
bones, all Cyrus cares about is getting even, and Zane has it coming. Cyrus soon
finds himself torn between the crippling desire for revenge and his
responsibility to his friends. When he begins to spend time in the company of
the beautiful and pureblooded vampire, Isidora, her presence in his life makes
him rethink his priorities.
Isidora is able to read minds. The thoughts she hears from the respected and
irresistible vampire, Cyrus, are filled with both anger towards Zane and a deep
admiration for her. Being closeted all her life, Issy has no idea what to do in
the face of the outside world's war, death, and challenges. One thing is clear.
She craves Cyrus, but his need for vengeance is clouding his mind. After
discovering a previously hidden family member and being called to serve the
Council, Issy is at a crossroads in her life and struggles to find the right path.
Both vampires face tough choices. Should Issy pursue her feelings for Cyrus or
wait until he can return her affection? Will Cyrus deny his attraction to
Isidora so he can kill the man who made his life a living hell on earth? Every
decision leads to a reckoning.
