Charlene Sands | Top Ten Ways Babies Make a Book Better!

I love writing about babies.  Babies are my business, you could say.  I've been teaching Baby Care and Childbirth classes for a few decades now and I consider it an honor to teach expectant parents the basics and joys of parenthood.  It's a happy time in their lives and I am grateful to be a part of their blissful event.   I absolutely love anything "baby."  But I also love my cowboys, ranchers and hunky heroes.  Put the two together and you get a story like THE COWBOY'S PRIDE.

So here's my Top 10 List: Why Babies Make the Book Better.

1. Babies have the best timing.  If you need them to be fussy, to break up a sexy scene and create tension in the story...they are there!

2. Babies keep the hero and heroine on their toes.  You can't have any stale or stagnant scenes, when the baby is in the room.  They are always getting into mischief!

3. Babies need things.  They need to be fed, clothed and entertained.  This can lead to some fun and eventful times.

4. Babies tend to see the value, sensitivity and good in the hero BEFORE the heroine does.

5. Babies can't be ignored.  They make their presence known when you least expect it.

6. Babies give the hero a fighting chance with the heroine ...when they sleep through the night!

7. Babies can get into trouble and need rescuing.

8. Babies do silly things and break up heavy moments with comedy.

9. Babies are way too much fun to dress up.

10. And finally, sweet adorable little baby bundles lend an emotion-filled story... the "ahhhh" factor.  Who can resist that?

So there you have it!   This is the second story I've written for Harlequin's Billionaires and Babies series.  Little Meggie comes into Trish and Clayton's life quite by accident and unknowingly gives the divorcing couple a run for their money.  The little rascal!

LOL.... Babies are terrific in real life too!

Love it, Charlene. Just finished Clay and Trish's story. And that baby comes in as
#5 a lot! Poor Trish. Now, I'm ready for the last brother to find love!

Starry-eyed pre-birth Moms have no idea what's in store for them. They think
they're ready but - oh they have no idea! I love babies and they are so
exhaustingly rewarding! :-)

I just love a book more when a baby makes an appearance.

A baby can be a scene stealer...that's for sure.

Hi Felicia - I had a lot of fun writing baby Meggie in this story. Now, I have a granddaughter of my own, so it makes this story more special for me.

Hi Louisa - Thanks for the kinds words. I am writing Jackson Worth's story as we speak. Thanks for stopping by!
(Charlene Sands 4:37pm December 6, 2011)

Hi May Pau - I totally agree. Love those babies!
(Charlene Sands 4:38pm December 6, 2011)

Hi Connie - Yes, my daughter is experiencing the joys of motherhood now, with an infant. I think it's daunting and beautiful at the same time!
(Charlene Sands 4:39pm December 6, 2011)

Hi Tammy - Meggie steals the show a few times in the story, that's for sure!
(Charlene Sands 4:40pm December 6, 2011)

Hi Robin - I'm ready to write another baby in the story..maybe for my Jan 2013 release.

I enjoy babies in books especially when they create havoc for the hero and heroine.....

The cover to your book is adorable, yet stirring at the same time!! I saw it, and it touched something in my heart immediately!! Even the mountains in the background were a nice touch. This is my favorite time of year, and although I love to decorate, and try to get in the spirit of things, there's a part of me that is deeply saddened. It's a long story, but I think your book is just the ticket I'll need to help lift me out of that funk. May you have a Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!!
(Peggy Roberson 10:14pm December 6, 2011)

I'd like to read a role reversal. Could your next heroine "help" the hero with his adorable baby?
(Joanne Hicks 10:33pm December 6, 2011)

I love babies in books as they are much less trouble than in
real life.
(Lisa Richards 2:14am December 7, 2011)

A baby adds a new twist to a romance story.
(Mary Smith 6:05am December 7, 2011)

Thanks for the list. Babies add more time to get ready for going outside of home. They also add more reality to the lifestyle of the characters in the story.
