As 2024 winds down, we’re celebrating the incredible success of this year’s Fresh Fiction Reading Challenges. From globetrotting adventures to festive reads, we invited readers to step outside their comfort zones, embrace new genres, and connect with a passionate community of book lovers. Here's a look at the highlights and creative challenges that kept readers turning pages all year.
The Challenges That Sparked the Fun
- A to Z Reading Challenge
Our A to Z challenge was a test of literary endurance and creativity! Readers could choose their level of difficulty:
- Easy: Complete the alphabet using either book titles or authors’ last names.
- Hard: Use only book titles! (Articles like "A," "An," and "The" didn’t count.) Participants who submitted their completed lists by December 1st entered a drawing for a $50 Amazon or bookstore gift card, with the winner announced at our Holiday Video Book Club in December.
- Book Bingo
Who doesn’t love a game of bingo with a bookish twist? This year’s Book Bingo encouraged readers to fill their cards with unique prompts like:
- Reading a banned book
- Enjoying a title with an animal on the cover
- Exploring a Fresh Fiction "Fresh Pick"
Participants needed to complete all squares for a Blackout Bingo by December 1st to qualify for the prize.
- Summer Reading Challenge
Our Read Around the World challenge added an adventurous touch to summer! From June 1 to August 31, readers journeyed across the globe by reading books set on each continent. From North America to Antarctica, every completed form earned an entry to win a $50 gift card.
- Holiday Reading Challenge
The festive season came alive with our Holiday Reading Challenge, running from November 28, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Participants decorated their trees and lit up their holidays by completing prompts such as:
- Reading a holiday mystery
- Choosing a title featuring a kiss under the mistletoe
This cozy challenge will wrap up with a prize announcement during our January Video Book Club (January 8th, 2025).
Our Amazing Community
Throughout the year, readers shared their progress, book reviews, and creative approaches to these challenges on social media. The hashtags were buzzing with inspiration, offering a treasure trove of recommendations and camaraderie. From binge-readers to slow explorers, every participant brought their unique flair to the game. Each week during our open Video Book Club, books were discussed, especially the hard-to-find states and continents.
Winners
Two readers managed to finish all five challenges and each won $100 Gift Cards. That's reading over 200 books read in 2024! Help us to applaud Madison Fairbanks and Lydia Schultz.
